My girlfriend booked a Spa Day for the pair of us back in October. The first problem was that they were pretty much booked up until January when we eventually went. The package included use of the Spa facilities, a Spa treatment, and a two course lunch.
On arrival we parked in the dedicated hotel car park at the bottom of the hill. We went into the hotel reception to try to get a car park pass. The first person to ask if they could help was a maintenance man wearing paint covered overalls. He disappeared to try to get us our pass. Whilst he was gone we were told by the rude receptionist (hotel not spa) that they (the Spa) shouldn't have told us to park there and that we shouldn't have parked there but as a one off they would 'allow' it. It was as though the Hotel and Spa were engaged in a little battle against each other and the general feeling was that the hotel were doing us a favour by allowing us to use their facilities. It was neither professional nor welcoming.
We went down to the Spa and were pleasantly greeted by the staff there. The Spa is tastefully presented and it was a nice place to relax. Everything was working and the hour we spent relaxing before our massage was very nice.
We both opted for a 1 hour full body massage. Mine was, at best, mediocre. The room was cold and there was no music. My girlfriend said the same, although her masseuse was clearly more experienced and chatty. Mine was just out of college and bereft of any personality.
We then went up for our two course meal. A choice of 2 starters on the 'Spa Package' - soup or goat's cheese, and then for the main course we were allowed to choose any salad from a choice of 3. Very disappointing. It was not explained when we booked that a 2 course meal would be soup and a salad. We happened to talk to 2 other groups that had booked the Spa Package whilst we were there and they both complained about the standard of food and service in the restaurant.
If you are still reading you have probably gathered that I was unimpressed by the whole package. The hotel are clearly trying to drum up business during the quiet winter months but be warned that as soon as you part with your money you will have to find your own place to park, and will feel cheated by the whole experience.
Needless to say I would not recommend.
