As a potter, this was a moving pilgrimage — the exhibits were educational and it's always a pleasure to get to see a historic and still working pottery. Leach's legacy is clear! The pottery has classes available (but one must book long in advance). I will certainly go back, even if only to get back to the gift shop.

This is the pottery set up by Bernard Leach and Shoji Hamada in 1920. Again a working pottery after some years of closure, it is a delightful and inspiring place with the spirit of the founders ever present.

If you like pottery and are in St.Ives then you have to visit. Get the bus it's a bit of a walk.
But it is worth a visit

I thoroughly enjoyed my visit. I think you do have to have an interest in it to properly understand and enjoy it though.
The selection of work you can buy from various potters in the shop is great, with a little bit of info on each one too. I bought a few small pieces.
If I'm ever in St Ives again, I'll definitely be visiting the shop again.
