“A little gem of perfection!”

It is a very long time since I was in St Ives with my parents and so I thought I would go down memory lane for a few days with my folks, now older, and my own family. It would not be unreasonable to say that I gulped hard when we arrived as the lane the house is on is certainly not sceanic, nor does it give a hint from the outside of the quality or size of this lovely house. BUT it does have parking for two short cars or one long one sideways on - which is key to any stay of length in this lovely town - parking is premium.

The house is charming and super clean - designed and styled almost as if it has been snipped out of Living Magazine - fresh, breezy, light and airy with simply everything at hand. The detail is there, with good books, games and info, with great attention to the many coat hooks, wellie racks etc Bed linen and towels were superb. ...... The great secret is the garden which starts off up at the sun room level (this was my favorite space looking out to sea with a cup of tea in the morning).. onto decking down to tidy garden and out into the foot path ... 2 or 3 levels as I recall. Immaculate with an outside tap I bed its great in the summer months for lots of little feet.

Challenges? - as I said - it doesnt look too remarkable from the outside ... ignore that - yes it does sleep 6 but I think the kitchen table really says one or two fewer ... so dont take your biggest friends with you if there are 6 and also because the gorgeous blue kitchen can only handle 3 active cooks in the galley. Also there are lots of steps so no vertically challenged aunties on this trip. That said - Grandma loved the simple shower in her ensuite once she got up there, Also I would use soft weekend bags rather than suitcases - they are easier to lift up and down the stairs. (We often rent holiday homes and I have to say the lady you will speak to in making your booking is simply lovely and will share all this info with you - which really adds to the ease of booking this very lovely experience). Was there anything missing? Well for me it was just the radio - I love pottering and listening! But I had a little travel one to listen to the shipping and watch the sea at night!

During our week it rained and rained and so the house needed to survive half term prep, card games and much reading by all ages. We had lots of lovely days in with the fire and out under those big clouds - plus one of the boys went surfing every day on the beach first thing with the surf school (five minutes over the hill) It was just wonderful that we could drive in and out of the off street parking all the time to those various events.

We did eat out .. but the kitchen is so very easy - with superb freezer and fridges that we also ate in and used all the lovely fresh and modern equipment - we didnt make a cake but if you felt so minded - the drop out tin is there for you to prepare for have your own Bake Off and the ovan gets hot!! (I would also say pack a lovely kitchen box - with herbs and garlic etc as the kitchen allows you to really enjoy cooking). There is a great M&S and a chunky Tesco as you drive in so dont drag your grocery bags with you.

Mad things - well through Facebook I wrote to the tennis club and got myself a private session with a teacher - it was like being in Monte Carlo as the courts are down by the station over looking the park and the beach .. next to the railway station. - great value and super fun. Also some mornings we went for a run and then had breakfast on the harbour front! We went up to Padstow for lunch - booked in advance - and that worked too.

Glorious galleries, coffee shops and of course The Tate - all in one place. Simply perfect I'd say.

“Lovely property”

We stayed at Gwithians Reach for a week this August. The cottage is decorated in a fresh, coastal style. I had looked at the property on Street View so knew what to expect, but interestingly, some members of our party were slightly disappointed by the neighbourhood, given that one of the photos on the property's website shows lovely cobbled streets in the centre of St. Ives. The property is not located on a cobbled street, and is, we were told by some friends, ex-Council, and whilst the house itself has been nicely decorated, the surroundings are not particularly picturesque. The only criticism of the property itself is that it was rather small for 5 people, especially upstairs. Although the space has been cleverly used, you do struggle in the two main bedrooms. However, neither of these points warranted a deduction of stars - we would still thoroughly recommend it.
