Recommended length of visit: 1-2 hours
Owner description: Dolly P is the blue boat operated by St Ives Boats from the harbour at St Ives. Dolly P, is a Lochin 33, a 10 metre boat powered by a 350hp Volvo Penta engine, for a fast, stable and comfortable ride. We are licensed by the MCA to carry 12 passengers up to 60 miles. Our most popular Trip is the one hour trip to Seal Island, which we run hourly (weather permitting) on a daily basis. Seal Island is home to a colony of Grey Atlantic Seals and is 6km west of St Ives. The boat, Dolly P, clings to the coastline before reaching Seal Island where the boat stays for 15-20 minutes to observe the seals. The other boat trips we offer are trips to Godrevy Lighthouse, trips to Hell's Mouth and Private Charters, including Ashes Scattering Services. We also offer Fishing trips from St Ives, both 1 1/2 hour Mackerel Fishing Trips and 4 hour Wreck and reef Fishing Trips. Bookings can be made by Mel, who you will find Outside The Lifeboat Station. Or phone to book

Thank you for your favourable review of your trip to Seal Island aboard Dolly P. I think you went out when the sea was a little bit rough, hence your description of a lively trip. Dolly P is a fun and stable boat whatever the weather and we're glad you enjoyed the experience.

“The dolly p , great!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 31, 2013

What an experience! Very friendly and helpful crew and great value for money. £10 for an adult and £8 for child. The boat takes you out to seal island where there were a lot of seals to be seen. Great photo opertunities! Lovely to see these lovely creatures in their natural habitat.
Be sure to look out for Derek outside the lifeboat station as there are a lot of other boat tips touting for business.

Thank you for your lovely review of your boat trip to Seal Island and recommending our boat Dolly P. There are several boats in St Ives making the same journey to Seal Island and Dolly P is the one that puts a smile on more people's faces. By trying harder, we aim to be better.

“Buyer Beware: Ask for the Blue Boat!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 19, 2013

Sorry for the long review, but we felt we had to relay our experiences of our day. After reading the fab reviews for Dolly P on TripAdvisor, we felt we had to take a boat trip to Seal Island whilst in St Ives. As we entered the harbour, we were accosted by a man wearing a shirt bearing a name confusingly similar to Dolly P. He persuaded us to take a trip at 10am, aboard his boat.

Firstly, his boat was half an hour late, so at 10.30am we had to scramble across the deck of a modern boat, with cushioned seating (which we later found out was the Dolly P!) and board a tired small wooden boat, weed hanging from its bottom, with an orange canopy. We realised then and why Dolly P is the only boat featured on TripAdvisor. To add insult to injury, we set off for Seal Island only to break down within 10 minutes and we hobbled back to the harbour for a refund. Meanwhile, Dolly P was off on her trip.
We decided to rebook with Derek on the Dolly P and luckily he found us seats on the 12.30 trip. What a different experience, the crew were really friendly from the minute we boarded. We sailed away at a great speed and could not have asked for a better trip, we stood at the back of the boat and watched the fascinating wash that Dolly P created.
On arrival at Seal Island, we were amazed at the agility of the boat and skill of the skipper who maneuvered the boat close to the seals. The skipper even came out of his cabin to talk to the passengers about the seals.
We would highly recommend the trip to Seal Island and would urge people to seek out the blue boat Dolly P and not succumb to sales pressure from other vendors.

As you have found out, there are several boats n St Ives offering boat trips. We like to think that "Dolly P" offers the best experience, as attested by our many excellent reviews here on TripAdvisor. Although the destination may be the same, the journey is very different. "Dolly P" is a modern, comfortable, stable and fast boat, with friendly and courteous crew members that take their role in the experience very seriously. The only way to ensure that you will travel on "Dolly P", is to find me, Derek, or insist on the blue boat and ignore the other vendor's efforts to take their boat trips. I'm sorry you had a bad experience, but also glad that you managed to find me and eventually enjoy your trip to Seal Island.

Good trip, not too many seals to see, but the ones around were enough, however please sort out the vibration problem, feet were still tingling hours later...

Thank you for your comments and favourable review of your boat trip aboard Dolly P. Seals are wild animals and are free to stay or leave Seal Island. Luckily, it is very rare that they all leave at once and our boat Dolly P will stay at the island for a minimum of fifteen minutes (no other boat stays longer), to ensure that our passengers get to see at least a few seals. As for the vibration, Dolly P is powered by a powerful 350hp diesel engine, so some vibration is inevitable. That same powerful engine enables Dolly P to travel speedily and in a stable manner to it's destination, which most passengers seem to enjoy.

The best day of your holiday. Wow that's a tremendous accolade, thank you. Our boat Dolly P, is a fast boat and great fun as you found out. Our aim is to make our boat Dolly P, the number one choice in St Ives. Both myself (Derek) and our skippers will go the extra mile to make our trips fun and pleasureable. See you next year.
