“LOVED IT!”
Reviewed July 31, 2012

We had a family room for just the 2 of us as it was a last minute booking and it was wonderful, spacious with bath AND sep shower, and a view to die for. The bed was super comfy and although next to the kitchen ventilation, it didn't bother us too much.
The staff MAKE this place so good - very friendly throughout and special mention to the good looking waiter James (oh he'll blush) for whom nothing was too much trouble.
Breakfast fresh and delicious (suggest perhaps one member of staff is the 'runner' to stop plates/glasses etc running out which was a small niggle). What I loved was that as the window seats became available, they were swiftly cleared so new guests could sit down and enjoy the spectacular view.
We had dinner one evening and the food was remarkably good, lovely menu with genuinely different and well presented dishes.
Location - well you can't get better; close to town, right over the sea AND its own swimming pool;

Can't wait to return - two blissful days wasn't enough!!

There's no doubt the Pedn Olva is pricey but as other reviewers have said, you are paying for the view, not luxury.

I asked for a discount for room only and this was quickly granted. Our room, 20, was spacious, with a large bed, bath and great views of Porthminster Beach.

Where the Pedn Olva comes into its own is when you visit as a non-guest - the bar has wi-fi which is a little patchy, but comes with more excellent views of the harbour. The outside terraces have more great scenery to enjoy.

Room Tip: Ask for room 20, and if you want a double, for the beds to pushed together. Great view. Admittedly i...

It's my dream to stay at this hotel one day (since 1964!) - somewhat out of our price range. I have to contend myself with a cup of coffee and a snack and what a superb place to do so. The views from the restaurant are incredible and the staff are friendly, helpful and efficient.

We didn't stay here we just dined.

Called in here after trying to find somewhere to eat in St Ives but everywhere was packed and it would have been a struggle with the little one and her pram. Plenty of room so in we went.

3 catch of the days and a burger later and we were left very impressed the food was very good and the presentation was excellent. We also enjoyed a lovely view across the beach and out to sea while eating it.

Will call in again next time were in St Ives.

My wife and I have stayed at this hotel many times over the past few years. The location is excellent and all the rooms offer lovely views of either porthminster beach or the harbour. The rooms are small but perfectly adequate although I would not want to stay in one for more than a couple of days as storage space is limited. Some rooms do have a balcony which is good if the weather is nice. The food is ok but I would suggest you take advantage of the great restaurants in St Ives rather than eat in the hotel. The staff are helpful although customer service could be better. In summary the hotel is perfectly ok but gets a good rating due to the excellent location.

Just returned from a 4 night stay at this hotel and the main talking points are the luxury price you will be paying to stay there, the location and the service. In location terms, you will not find a finer hotel. Superb views of both the town and St Ives bay make the location second to nobody in St Ives in my opinion. Because of that, and ONLY because of that, you will be paying the sort of price associated with a luxury hotel. In high season you'll be looking at £200 a night. I had a deluxe room which had a single and double bed and was of a perfect size although I would say that getting a single room would mean VERY small. True, you could hear the footsteps of people upstairs, but it wasn't too bad. The view overlooking the swimming pool and St Ives bay was superb and the sound of the waves just down below the window was very calming. That's it really. You will not receive anything else classed in the luxury category. I wasn't expecting it to be, I only stayed here for the location. In terms of service, expect the absolute minimum. For example, upon arrival, the receptionist saw us to our room and rattled through some rules and regs etc whilst on our way, opened the door and left. Didn't ask where we were from or how our journey down was. Nothing. She was also the receptionist when I checked out. She told me how much I owed, asked for my pin, handed my card back and that was it. Didn't even ask how the stay was. Her name was Iona. Dyed red hair. I'm not complaining, it's what I expected, just so long as nobody else using this site pays £200 a night and DOES expect luxury service. You won't get it. You will get great views, lovely breakfast, super restaurant and terrace and will have an excellent time.
