Working in the trade, I booked the hotel for a writers congress. It was an excellent stay, in spite of a major flood 2 weeks earlier. The staff were extremely helpful and professional. They were proactive and the congress went very smoothly with no delays. There was always a senior member of staff available to deal with delegate demands. The food was of a consistantly high standard. As with many 3 star hotels, some of the bedrooms were a little basic, but they were spotlessly clean, and the beds were comfortable.

I have just organised the West Country Writers Association Annual Congress at the Chy-an-Albany Hotel - it was a great success. The comments I have received from the other guests were extremely positive and I know they very much enjoyed the occasion.

The food was good, parts of the hotel had recently been refurbished and looked great. The hotel was very clean. The sun lounge has stunning views over the sea and Porthminster Beach.

The communication between the Manager of the hotel (Paul Rees) and the Function Manager (Jane Wilmot) and myself and my colleagues on the committee was superb. I feel good communication brings success.

It was an extremely busy weekend with non-stop activities, Paul and Jane worked very hard for us to ensure everything was in place and very punctual.

I thoroughly recommend the hotel both for pleasure and for conferences.

the west country writers conference was held at the chy an albany over a may weekend. Despite having had a disastrous flood only a week before, the hotel management provided us with an excellent conference, with good food, friendly service, good facilities for book room and conference room for 50. We could not fault their willingness to help, and everyone enjoyed the weekend very much. Beds and bedrooms were not sumptuous, and I for one would have liked a bathroom rather than a shower but this is a quibble compared to the excellent experience we otherwise enjoyed.

If you are looking for a hotel in St Ives, centrally located without having to negotiate your car around the narrow lanes, then this is the place for you.

Welcoming staff, thoughtful service and excellent food. If you like chintz, it has that, too. If you can, pay extra for a sea view.

Having read earlier reviews, I am mystified by certain remarks. We arrived at Chy an Albany on Friday, 23rd May and were given a warm welcome. Our room (double De Luxe Sea View) was absolutely superb - decor, comfort, view over the ocean - all wonderful. The little extras (sparkling and still water etc) were all there. The en-suite was very good and very spacious.

The dining room was first class - very friendly, helpful staff and a fine breakfast and Dinner menu. The food was good - very enjoyable.

We stayed for five nights and nothing was ever too much trouble for manager Paul Rees and his staff.

Yes - it was a little "pricey" but you get what you pay for and my wife and I were delighted with our stay at Chy an Albany. St Ives is a place that we visit each year and, having found the Chy an Albany, we will not even consider staying anywhere else in the town in future.
