We paid a very short visit to Porthmeor Beach while on holiday in the town. Out of season it was clean and inviting although the presence of dogs on the sand was disappointing.

Spent a week here when it was VERY WINDY. This didn’t put us off though.
Wow! Magnificent.
Fabulous sand. Lots of surfing activity to watch.
Great walks along the gorgeous sand.
Super cafe right on the beach.
Couldn’t ask for more. ( apart from less wind!)

Best beach in Cornwall where you can see the most amazing sunsets !! Downside it is popular especially during school holidays and it gets packed. There is a real problem with people getting there early picking the best spots setting up a wind break encampment. Thereby reserving a plot as they go back for breakfast and roam the town before taking up their pitch which they keep for the day. It's the towel on a deck chair syndrome but magnified. The problem was so big this year that there needs to be some form of control !!! Off the peak season it's no problem

Great beach for surfing, bodyboarding and eating (breakfast, lunch and diner) ! The guys at St. Ives Surf School do an incredible job be it for private lessons, group courses or simply rental of boards or wetsuites. A must go where you can stay whole days ! The kitchen at Porthmeor Cafe is one of the best in St. Ives.
