Owner description: Tate St Ives features work by iconic 20th century artists who lived and worked in the town, including Alfred Wallis, Ben Nicholson and Barbara Hepworth, demonstrating the role of St Ives in the story of modern art. This is combined with a new programme of large-scale seasonal shows, beginning with sculptor Rebecca Warren’s first major UK exhibition.

Visited while on holiday. Nice, modern building but much smaller than I expected- although I didn't visit the Barbara Hepwoth exhibition.

I come from a design background and can appreciate all types of art, but I can't express enough how poor the collection was here. Absolutely no significant pieces and only took around 10 minutes to complete the walk around.

The best bit for me was the view of the beach out of every window...but I can stand outside for free and see that. Oh, and the beautiful floor of the lower gallery 2 - now that was produced by a true artist; both in manufacture and laying.

Anyhow, do visit if you like flushing your money down the toilet whilst pretending to be a pretentious wazzock.

Location fabulous, and worth an early morning visit before the crowds descend. Parked at the leisure centre and caught the bus into town (need to check if the bus goes to the tate as some go directly to the harbour). The entry fee is approx £7. I visited the cafe on 4th floor first and the views are spectacular. The day I visited was too windy for them to be using the outside tables - but if you can get a window table looking over porthmeor beach then it is worth it!
The artwork in the galleries is interesting especially the pieces by Barbara Hepworth

Architecture of the museum stunning. You either like modern art or you don't. I found this more accessible than the stuff in the Tate Modern. but prefer more traditional forms of art. The Hepworth sculptures were very good. The café on the top floor has lovely views and is open even if you haven't bought a ticket. Certainly worth a cuppa there!
