“Great B&B - fantastic hosts”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 26, 2012

This is a lovely B&B, a modern refurbishment, very stylish, individual pieces of furniture (including a four poster bed), gorgeous bathroom with beautiful toiletries. A great location minutes from the seafront & Tate St. Ives. The owners are very welcoming & friendly, they can't do enough for you. Great breakfast. Garage parking can also be arranged. And very reasonably priced. One of the nicest B&Bs I've stayed in. Only a few minutes walk to the Portheor Cafe, which though casual, with a surfer feel, has delicious food at very reasonable prices. The Porthminster Cafe is a must as well for those with deeper pockets.

Room Tip: Go for The Pilchard Press for the four poster!

We have now stayed several times with Carol and Mike and will keep returning. It's my first choice of where I want to spend my 50th birthday next year!
The genuine warmth of the welcome, luxurious standard of the bedroom (the Pilchard Press), central location and tasty breakfast keep us coming back. This time there were even more details that exceeded our expectations- the fresh flowers in the room, the stoppered bottle/flask? of water and berries in the extremely fresh fruit salad were extra finishing touches that enhanced our stay. My husband enjoyed the daily breakfast specials although I was more than happy with the full English- tasty local bacon and sausage. We felt like royalty! We would wholeheartedly recommend The Keep to anyone wanting an intimate B and B and that personal touch!

Room Tip: Treat yourself to the Pilchard Press if possible for its foou poster style bed

We have just left after 2 wonderful nights at the keep! the location was perfect and the host Carol and Mike made our stay it felt as though we were at home! the room was so comfortable and the room outside the bedroom was great to relax after a long walk from (St ives to Lelant which is about 90 mins then catch a train back to St Ives) perfect place to make a cuppa read the paper and catch up on emails etc before getting ready for dinner, we went to The Loft restaurant which is 4 min walk from the keep great food and service we even went back the following night!

Room Tip: only have 2 rooms we stayed in the Pitchard suite which is the bigger of the 2

Mike and Carol were fantastic hosts and we had a wonderful time at The Keep. It's in a great location right off the St Ives high street and the accommodations are wonderful - four poster bed, lovely shower, and high spec televisions both in the room and shared lounge. Breakfasts are excellent and change everyday. Could not recommend it more highly!

We stayed for two nights in the Pilchard Press whilst touring through Cornwall at the end of a two month european tour. It was a lovely retreat from large hotels and sterile hotel rooms. What a wonderful job Carol and Mike have done in turning what was once a pilcard press into a warm, inviting, comfortable bed and breakfast. It didn't have the usual feel of being in someones home that some other B&Bs have. The two rooms available are down stairs from the main house at street level and are separated by a lovely communal lounge/breakfast area. Our room had a luxurious feel with a draped four poster bed, ample storage and a well appointed bathroom. I loved the lighting in room and bathroom.
Carol and Mike were attentive without being intrusive, ready to give us any information we needed. The cooked breakfast was HUGE with Mike's scrambled eggs just "the best"
The Keep is within easy walking distance to the whole village, it is actually situated within the village, and an easy walk to restaurants the beach and harbour.
Parking is off site pay parking which was no problem however it would be good to study its location before you go. Take coins for the machine. If you have large bags (as we did) drop them off first.
All and all a wonderful stay in St Ives, you really can't go past this lovely little spot.

Three months after my first visit here, I returned for a four-night stay and was not at all disappointed. The location is great for Porthmeor Beach and the town centre, and the rooms are cosy and beautifully furnished. This time I was in the Mermaid Room, which is just as comfortable as the Pilchard Press. The breakfasts are really tasty and imaginative - I can particularly recommend the eggs Benedict. Carol and Mike treat their guests as friends, and we even went to a gig at the St Ives Festival together. I don't suppose this will have been my last visit...

Room Tip: Both rooms are equally comfortable and well furnished.

The Keep is a great place for couples to stay whilst in St Ives, whilst you are literally a stones throw from all the action, step down an alleyway and into your room and it feels as though you have been transported to your own oasis of calm. Mike and Carol are wonderful hosts, always eager to please and full of useful advise. Breakfasts were superb and we would recommended it to any couples planning a stay there, just don't book the same dates that we want!!
