This beach cafe has it all. We had a lovely few breakfasts here whilst on holiday and one outstanding dinner.

For breakfast, there is great Origin coffee, gorgeous pancakes and bacon buttys.

The tapas menu in the evenings is really fantastic though and great value for money. We had the bread and olives, monkfish (amazing), prawns, halloumi salad and duck. We were not disappointed. The wine was great too!

All delivered with a fantastic view of the beach - perfect! The service was great too.

Beautiful location, visited on many occasions for breakfast, recommend breakfast buttermilk pancakes. Fresh orange juice pricey but worth it.

Having seen the reviews on TA we went one evening to sample the tapas menu. Excellent choice and the service was friendly and efficient . You need to book as it gets busy.

We enjoyed it so much we went on our final lunch prior to driving home to avoid the morning weekend traffic .Again a delicious relaxing meal with fantastic views.

Some might say it is expensive. We felt it good value for money and quality costs!

Recommended without hesitation

I want to like this place more, having been on several visits to St Ives for lunch and dinner. It has a great setting, and is clearly incredibly popular. It's always difficult to get a table whatever time of day you go. The menu is exciting, with some little flairs of inspiration here and there. Their attempt at tapas is appreciated and more elaborate, original and exciting than most of the places in Cornwall professing to serve tapas.

The interior is decorated like a garden centre tea shop - it looks tacky and really doesn't fit the presentation of the food. The food is beautifully presented but some dishes lacked that final push of flavour to make them truly great. The restaurant is quite expensive, perhaps understandably so, but there are some little things that have a big impact that they could really do with tweaking to justify the cost. The waitresses were rushed, impersonal and a little cold but the service was prompt. The chef had a strop mid-service and in a tight little cafe like this with the kitchen on show there's nowhere to hide that kind of thing and it came off as unprofessional and awkward for the diners.

Overall worth a visit, and probably a five-star on a night when everything gels together.

We visited Porthmeor Café 3 times during our week holiday in St Ives, first day we arrived we stumbled across it by chance and had a lovely lunch and drinks, what a lovely start to our holiday.
Food, service and drinks all very good and would recommend. The views out to the beach are great and best of all they are very dog friendly!
