“Have never been disappointed.”

We've visited several times, and always say we'll just have a quick snack and one glass of wine (it's not the cheapest place to eat) but we ended up staying two hours, munching our way through about 7 dishes of tapas, a bottle of wine and pudding... AND taking two slices of their cake home with us! Oops. The view is gorgeous. We've always received good service. It's very clean and the place is buzzing with such a nice vibe. We've occasionally been lucky enough to get one of their outside booths overlooking the beach, turned on the patio heaters, wrapped ourselves in the blankets provided and sat there for ages, drinking, eating and chatting... love, love, love it! Although we mostly go 'out of season'.... I imagine like most places in St Ives, it's gets a bit frantic during summer time.

“Buzzing on the Beach”
Reviewed April 16, 2013

The Porthmeor Cafe is situated on one of the best beaches in the UK !

It is a modern design and provides a range of dining options from homemade cakes & pastries with excellent Coffee alongside a good choice of Tapas and sharing plates and more substantial main meals.

The atmosphere inside the restaurant is really buzzy or you could take advantage of the 2 alfresco dining areas complete with heated alcoves.

So whether you fancy a quick pit stop or a leisurely glass or two of Kir Royale whilst watching the Surfers ride the impressive waves onto the golden sands this establishment is an excellent choice.

“Must not be missed”
Reviewed April 16, 2013

What a superb place! The food is absolutely top quality - worthy of some of the best restaurants in South Africa or Australia and the setting is spectacular, right overlooking Porthmeor beach. It is worth travelling from London to St Ives just to eat here! I can highly recommend the Monkfish Tapas!

“It's not all about the view......”
Reviewed April 15, 2013

Whilst in St Ives for the week we spent a very nice evening at the Porthmeor Cafe, overlooking the beach. We booked, you can't at lunchtime, and had a nice table by the window.

It was busy, but that meant there was a good atmosphere, and the service was excellent.

The menu was a bit confusing I thought, a selection of tapas, seemed to be the starters, with more traditional modern mains. We decided to have a selection of 4 tapas to start, to share, they came well presented in a dish all together, and truely delicious....even if we spent some time picking it off the table as it not easy to transport from serving plate to our own.

Mains, I decided upon Lobster and chips. After the wonderful tapas, I couldn't wait....if I'm honest, I should have! The Lobster was wet, by that I mean water filled, meaning that the very fatty deep fried baked potatoes, became in parts soggy. Not that I eat Lobster all of the time, but this certainly didn't make my all time greats!

The others in the party that didnt have the lobster though thought their food was excellent. The two of us that did were a little unlucky! It wasn't horrible, but where lobster is a stone's through away, it should have been cooked to perfection...it wasn't.

This definitely looks like a cafe, but it's trying not to be. Also, I wouldn't recommend wearing your best attire for the evening, unless you know it will be washed as you come home with the smell of cooking!

Overall, it was excellent, let down by the Lobster on this occasion...I do though look forward to returning...I would recommend it.

“Disappointed”
Reviewed April 14, 2013

visited this cafe based on trip advisor reviews. We have tried many eateries in St Ives and this was probably the only one we didn't enjoy. The view is amazing lovely and clean, but the food was disappointing. We had the fish in batter sandwich and I must say the fish was bland and tasteless although the batter was o.k.Our children ordered from the children's menu which looked o.k and 2 smoothies which were pricey.I think what topped the whole thing off was the miserable waitress serving us.So probably wouldn't eat there again as very pricey for this type of service and food, maybe fine for drinks and a cake and of course the view, can't believe this is voted number 1 as a place to eat in St Ives.
