“casual but excellent seaside small plates”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 30, 2013

visited here on a cold blustery March evening but instantly felt the warmth of the place - staff were welcoming and knew their stuff and served with a smile - the chef is an Aussie and there's a definite Oz twist to the menu. A high turnover of the small menu means that some things sell out (always a good sign of freshness) but our mains of red prawn curry and hake were the dog's cojones and outdid Hix's versions of the same dishes.
finishing off with Origin coffee was a bonus - cant wait to come back!

“great tapas”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 30, 2013

do stop here for some food, when you visit the Tate perhaps. We had fabulous tapas here, not strictly speaking Spanish dishes. Tapas here refers to the concept rather than the cuisine, i.e. beautifully presented small dishes with very fresh food. Delicious and reasonably priced.

“Ticks all the boxes”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 29, 2013

We decided to visit Porthmeor Cafe having seen the reviews on Trip Advisor and we can only echo the praise heaped on this place. We were visiting Tate St Ives located just above the cafe so this provided our first excuse to visit it for morning coffee! It was bitterly cold and so we welcomed sitting inside but still able to enjoy the panaromic beach views from the table and the glorious St Ives' light. The food being delivered to tables looked so so appetising be it generously filled bacon sandwiches, pancakes piled high with fresh fruit and tempting home made cakes. Our second visit was for lunch. This time we had to sit outside since all the inside tables were occupied but another treat was in store as we were ushered into our own heated alcove complete with blankets to keep our knees warm. Wrapped up nice and cosy looking out onto the beach was very special and great fun. Before we knew it our lunch order of tapas arrived. Every dish was a delight whether it be duck slices on polenta, chorizo meatballs, prawns in chilli and lemongrass, ricotta fritters and grilled halloumi. Yummy!!! This was followed by fab desserts including saffron bread and butter putting and churros to dunk in chocolate sauce. We could have eaten the whole menu!. The young lady who served us was so efficient and friendly with a great sense of humour -thank you!

“Best fish burger right on the beach”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 29, 2013 via mobile

Small cafe and we were lucky to get a seat by the window looking right onto Porthmeor Beach. Beer battered fish burger sandwich was fresh and delicious with perfect amount of tartar sauce. Had churros for dessert. To die for. Great service!
