“Excellent food, let down by a few details”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 20, 2014

The food and service are excellent, but we found the atmosphere a bit cold and functional. They are one of those places that charge for every little thing - if you want bread with your starter it is (from memory) £3.95 extra. So although we were very happy with our meal, we did feel (ever so slightly) over-charged.

It books up early, so if you want to visit you have to plan ahead.

“Inventive food, local ingredients”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 18, 2014

I liked the look of this place from outside (small, polished but unpretentious) and the menu (seasonal, local, creative) and it delivered everything it promised. Much better for me than the "cheap and cheerful" places along the waterfront, which seem to specialize in deep-fried everything and crying children. It's tiny, so book ahead.

“Best of the holiday...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 16, 2014 via mobile

Not on the sea-front, but well worth a visit.
Food was excellent and staff / service first class.
We booked our evening slot around midday and asked the chef at the tine if he could do something plain (and not on the menu) for one of the party. He made a special effort to make a special dish and it tasted wonderful.
The rest of the orders were also top notch - fish soup, mussels (#5 this holiday), duck liver pate, monk fish & shell fish curry and a steak. No complaints at all; in fact this was definitely the best meal of our vacation in Cornwall.
Value for money was good too - well within normal range for a meal of this high standard.
Book your visit next time you visit St. Ives - you won't regret it.

“Culinary excellence!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 16, 2014

I'll admit to having visited St Ives many times and passed by this place. It looks a bit unassuming and perhaps lacks the lure of the beach cafés, but if you want a really special meal with great service, don't miss it. The fish curry was excellent and while similar to one at the Porthminster Cafe, is it so much better value. It has lots of tasty fish, whereas the Porthminster have clearly been maintaining margins by cutting back on the fish content!! Imaginative cooking in an unpretentious setting. This comes highly recommended if you can live without waves as a backdrop to your dinner!!

“A step above”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 15, 2014

Small, well chosen menu, fresh ingredients, packed with flavours. Our party had a seafood curry - very tasty, lots of meat on the crab claws; rib eye steaks were very flavoursome and the best we've had in ages and cooked exactly as ordered; the beet root risotto was beautifully cooked and full of flavour and texture with the walnuts. Very good sized portions. The relaxed ambience and spacious dining area was very conducive to a lovely evening out with friends. Desserts were truly scrumptious, special mention must be made of the strawberry sorbet, divine. All in all, the best meal out in literally years. Service was very good and staff very friendly without being intrusive. Would highly recommend this restaurant.
