This is the third year we have eaten at this restaurant and have never been disappointed. From the minute you walk thro the door it feels good. Nice ambience, decor, art works and tables not crammed together. This is important I think as we have had many a good meal in restaurants spoiled by uncomfortable, noisy surroundings. The staff are accommodating and pleasant. The menu changes regularly and has good choice of meat, fish and veggie. We opted for belly pork and delicious ginger panacotta with rhubarb and meringue, very well done by a brilliant chef. This place may not have the views but boy it delivers on food. Don't miss it.

Was not disappointed after reading the reviews on trip advisor. The crab claw starter and mussels and hake were delicious. What stands out is the space between tables, whilst in london it is always cramped, this was very spacious. Very attentive service, would certainly come back when I will return to lovely St. Ives.

Every year we make the long drive to St Ives for a week of fresh air, cliff top walks, amazing scenery and gorgeous food.
We'd read the Black Rock reviews, so gave it a try..........
We were welcomed by an adonis of a friendly smiling waiter who let us choose our table (we selected a table with a view into the central kitchen to watch the chefs at work) and chatted about this and that.
He then brought delicious bread and butter, and we chose items from the "2 courses for £16.50" menu - available between 6pm and 7pm.
I had home smoked gravlax with dill sauce on toasted sour dough with salad, and the lovely husband chose a stunning lamb broth with barley, carrots and wild garlic.
This was followed by a gratin of jerusalem artichoke, peppers, home made gnocchi etc in a really rich garlicky cheese sauce (the fragrance when the lid came off the gratin dish was amazing) with a huge bowl of stir fried purple sprouted brocolli - gorgeous iron rich goodness.
The lovely husband had the famous steak with soy marinade and fresh greens, with a bowl of chips deep fried in beef dripping - he said they were the best he'd tasted since he was on holiday at the seaside when he was 6 years old!! All delicious simple well executed fresh food.
The friendly chefs were hard at work preparing delicacies for other diners - the posh middle aged lady at the next table was heard to exclaim "This is the best starter I've had in my life!!"
We had no room for puds and the whole bill was less than £40 including (soft) drinks.
As we left we thanked the chef's and they were beaming with pride - genuinely glad we'd enjoyed it.
This is a great restaurant - such a delight to eat this food instead of food that is foamy/popping in your mouth/deconstucted and generally faffed about with.
Well done Black Rock - see you next year when we make the trip from Durham again!!

Went to The Black Rock for the first time this year,we were not disappointed. The food was excellent. We had the crab au gratin to start the bavette of steak for our main course and a scrummy pudding which was a steamed rhubarb sponge,ginger panaccotta and clotted cream with meringue. It was all superb we will be returning very soon!!!

Can confirm that food is really great. I had dinner with wife. We ordered De-shelled rab claws in garlic butter (delicious - must try this), hoome cured organic gravlax as starters. As mains we had bavette steak in soy marinade (very good) and local mussels cooked in ale.
Bottle of La Delfna Pinot Grigio was perfect addition to our evening.
Service was non-intrusive which is a big plus for me.
Do not be mislead by the "standard modern restaurant" interior. You will be not disappointed with food.
For a dinner I have paid £60 which is great value for money.
