Pick from a fish counter or meat counter, choose a sauce +- a crust on seafood, await and enjoy chosen dish. Deliciously fresh seafood, with adequate side choices. Think the prices were very reasonable for the choices available. The service was efficient, but rather impersonal. Hence a 'very good' review.

“Fresh Food and Cooked to order”
Reviewed March 4, 2014

It's always confidence boosting to see a busy restaurant which tells you they are doing something right. We weren't disappointed. We were greeted and seated and the staff took our drinks order while we perused the menu. We chose our meals from the front counter where the fish and meats were all on display with the prices. Each meal was cooked exactly as we ordered and there was a lot of it. We only ordered starters and main course, most of us didn't need anything else though one person wanted a sweet. The establishment was very clean and tidy and the layout comfortable for people to move walk by without knocking your chair or table. The staff were very friendly and helpful. A nice atmosphere and enjoyable evening meal on a Sunday. There were specials on offer and you could order specific meals to your taste. We didn't have to wait long for each course and the food was brought to your table hot. We would recommend and return again. The prices are a tad more expensive than at some other establishments in the town but not unreasonable for very good quality food and service which is worth paying but won't break the bank account. Would advise booking busy periods and evenings.

“Fabulous food and really reasonable prices”
Reviewed March 2, 2014

Loved the difference that you can see the meat and fish you're choosing before choosing it and that you can choose your sauce and the type of potatoes. They were happy to swap potatoes for veg for my fiancee too. We had an excellent bottle of pinot noir too which was very reasonably priced and our whole bill for two mains, the wine, a coffee and a glass of desert wine came to just over 50 quid which is very reasonable indeed.

Top tip: We were told that in summer it gets so busy you should book a week in advance.

“What a plaice!”
Reviewed February 23, 2014 via mobile

First things first, this place is excellent. Deciding where to eat in St. Ives was giving us a bit of a Haddock and we had been walking around just for the Hallibut.
We passed the SeaFood Cafe and made a note to come back but seconds later we found ourself drawn into its warm glow. We were quickly given a seat despite it being a busy Saturday night and given a brief introduction to the restaurant and how it works. Basically, you look in the fridge at all the fish and just ask for that one, they give you a number of sauces and potato options to choose from. If your not a fishy wizard like myself then just ask for some advice. I was recommended the Skate with brown sugar and caper sauce and it was the best fish I have ever eaten. But more on that later.
After deciding what to have for a starter (salt and pepper squid) and drink (the house white, which was amazing, so good) we went back to our table and enjoyed the ambience. Our wine then arrived and the waitress was very nice, friendly and knowledgeable and she told us all the best places to have a drink later on.
Literally less than 3 minutes later our starter arrived and it's totes amaze, simple, fresh and lush.
So after this, we are chatting and stuff and then 10 or so later our mains arrive. No messing around with garnishes or fancy plates just straight up good food. The skate I had with the afore mentioned sauce was seriously good, the best fish I've had since I can remember. Huge portion, succulent flesh and a lovely side of potatoes. Seriously guys it was amazing. My dinner companion, (a lady), had ordered the Hake and she too was overjoyed.
"The sauce was fit, I didn't expect it to be creamy but it worked really well".
For pudding I had a Lemon posset and she a chocolate creme brûlée. These were beautifully garnished and beautifully fancy and nice.
Overall we spent 1hr 7minutes inside but we didn't feel rushed, we could have stayed another hour and they wouldn't have minded. All the staff we saw were fantastic, friendly, helpful and good fun.
Best restaurant in St. Ives, hands down no worries. We will be back.

To the owners, My parents opened a bakery in Southwold last year and they love reading positive trip advisor reviews so I hope you enjoyed this.
