“Surprising good!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 16, 2014 via mobile

Despite the appearance of the outside tables, inside the bar and restaurant is lovely. Staff were efficient and polite. Really enjoyed the evening, and they managed to cater to a dairy intolerant individual with no problem at all! Would definitely visit again.

“Fantastic Seafood”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 12, 2014

My family and I had lunch at the Slipway twice during our annual 2 week stay in Cornwall and each time the food was wonderful, especially the sea food - mussels, fish ploughmans, chowder, even the fish and chips !. We,ve eaten here many times over the years and I can honestly say that we have enjoyed every meal. The location is fantastic, the staff have always been great and the food has always been top notch. There can't be many places in the UK where you can eat seafood that is sourced from a harbour that's 50 yards away !. I,ve read some of the negative reviews posted and I think some people go there expecting too much. At the end of the day, the Slip Way is a pub with rooms, albeit expensive rooms, however that's the price you pay for Doc Martin being located in the village. Don't go to the Slip Way expecting fine dining and I don't think you,ll be disapointed.

“Disappointing cream tea”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 10, 2014

Standards seemed to have been dropped when we called in for a cream tea at the Slipway. Tea was served from a coffee pot, the milk was in a cream jug, the cup was a coffee cup with a cinnamon pre-packed biscuit on side of the saucer and the shallow scones had the texture of a light sponge. All this said, the overladen dish of jam was delicious and the cream plentiful.

“A lovely meal”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 10, 2014

A lovely meal on a busy Saturday night. The young waiter who attended our table was courteous and polite, but also had a good sense of humour. We all had the steak and asked for "medium rare" often this can be a bit hit or miss in a restaurant, but these steaks were cooked to perfection.
My husband had the mussels in Thai sauce for starters, they were delicious. Overall a lovely dining experience. Some people have criticised the decor and building but it is an old building right on the seafront, which is often battered by the elements.

“Very average experience - beware the heat!!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 4, 2014

We ate here last Friday evening. Food was good enough, nothing exceptional and not worth the price - except the steak that one of our companions had which was apparently very disappointing. The decor and general ambience is poor, very much like stepping back into a 1960's tea room, not suitable for evening dining, could do with a serious freshen up, and the service was very slow. But the worst was that the temperature was unbearable - on a day when the temperature outside had dropped to 16 degrees. This made the whole experience a real let down. We ate fast and didn't bother with a sweet as we couldn't wait to get out of the heat! All in all, for the overall experience and price, not worth the money.
