Ranked #3 of 4 Hotels in Port Isaac

As everyone else has said, this is the best location to enjoy Port Isaac, right in the centre of town. The staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast we had was terrific. We chose not to eat dinner as we wanted to experience a different place, being there only one night. We ate at the Schoolhouse, which was a bit pricy but the food was good. We had a twin room at the back of the hotel so no view but it was clean and functional, albeit a bit cramped. I was glad we were only staying one night. I would say that, if you are going to stay here, get a room at the front. If not, there are other hotels up the hill that would offer a view as well and, as you have to park your car there anyway, it is just as easy to stay up at the top.

Room Tip: Get a room overlooking the harbor.

Was pleasantly surprised at the size of our room...turned out to be rooms. 2 bedrooms, bathroom and a living area. All overlooked the slipway. The staff were friendly and helpful, and breakfast was tasty and filling. Our rooms were clean and roomy, great facilities. Gorgeous bathroom with a bath and plenty of space. Added bonus of a guest lounge room, if you so desired.

Me and My boyfriend stayed at the Slipway hotel in Port Issac for three nights. The village is stunning. The hotel is lovely and is right in the center of the village and close to all Doc Martin filming locations, great if your a Doc Martin fan. The staff are very friendly and willing to help if needing information etc...Food is lovely and breakfast is too, great section on breakfast. Only down fall is that not all areas of the hotel has WIFI. Would recommend this hotel if visiting Port Isaac.

Port isaac is a most picturesque place and the hotel is superbly located to make the most of the beauty and the town's facilities. We had an upstairs room with views out to the harbour which was fantastic. Although the room was quite compact, it was comfortable and clean. Meals at the restaurant were very good and breakfast was great too. The only downside is that there is no parking at the hotel. Carparking is available about 15 minutes walk away. We arrived on a beautiful sunny day and therefore there were 100s of tourists in the town and there was no carpark available when we arrived. The hotel should notify incoming guests that the only road into the town is only one car wide and is difficult to navigate and therefore guests should park their car at the carpark before coming to the hotel. Great place though and would definitely return for another stay.

Room Tip: Room with a view of the harbour (upstairs)

If you look just above the 'S' of 'Slipway Hotel' on the canopy in the pic of the Hotel, that was our room, with super little balcony and view over the harbour!

Great location - obviously more so for Doc Martin aficionados:) The staff was attentive and the 'resident's' entrance and lounge proved a real bonus. The rooms, whilst a tad cramped for the money (£150 p.n. B&B), were clean and well maintained. Breakfast and dinner was fine, despite the guy in the party of four who sat down next to us for dinner at 8.30pm in a totally inebriated state and had to keep exiting with support to get fresh air. He could hardly stand up and would definitely have been ejected at a football game:(!! Allegedly he was a local restaurateur!:)

Preprandial and also after-dinner drinks at either The Golden Lion (aka Crab and Lobster, where we chatted with the film crew!!) and also the Mote are a must - the Mote's Irish coffees are "to die for" and we much appreciated the rugs and overhead heaters, even in May! Bert Large was dining there right outside with some friends as we first arrived at the Slipway Hotel just opposite. Clearly safe from food poisoning that night!! LoL:)

We 'did' the walk up the hill, past the 'Doc's' house and Bert's cafe, right around the headland over to Port Quin. Be warned!! It might only be 3.5 miles or so, but it is steeply up and down most of the way and took us around 2 and a half hours!! Normally we would expect it to take at least an hour less. On arriving in Port Quin, we looked for the welcoming pub - err, there's not one. I guess we should have checked. Still, at the back of the grass car park we found the mobile Citroen van 'cafe' and enjoyed two highly priced small cardboard cups of coffee and shared a crab sandwich. Total £13! We have now been reminded of what a 'captive and needy' audience is! Thank the good lord that there was a much more direct pathway back across the fields to Port Isaac, around 2 miles+ which took us just 45 mins, as it was mostly level!! Amazing difference - we were very grateful for the shortcut back.

On our second night we dined at The Edge, up on top of the village on the road over to Port Gaverne. Stunning cliff top views right around the bay as far as Tintagel itself - upstairs, in what is a 'nouveau' eatery allegedly favoured by the Doc himself:). Great food, attentive service and decent wine offering. Would do again!

We would definitely recommend a weekend break at the Slipway, especially for its close proximity to such places as Tintagel, Padstow etc.. If staying longer, I would try their sister hotel, not far away at Trebarwith Strand - called "The Mill House". No Doc stuff there tho'!!:):)

A footnote: on the Sunday night we sat outside The Mote enjoying our after-dinner drinks and witnessed a VERY sad sight indeed - see our pic. The RNLI life boat crew had returned home and were cleaning down their rib and its equipment after attending the very tragic accident in the estuary at Padstow, late that Sunday bank holiday afternoon. It was an extremely 'quiet' and contemplative return home as anyone could ever imagine and I just want to state our entire admiration for the Port Isaac and all other RNLI crews who don't always get called to attend the more 'obvious' seafaring call-outs (for those must truly be bad enough) - but also to have to deal with the many other diverse (and often mortal) occurances around our coastline.
A huge one to you guys - utter and total respect!!!!!!!!!!!!

Room Tip: Obviously, if you can stretch to it, a sea view room is a 'must'!!

The location is perfect but there are better restaurants in Port Isaac at almost any other time of the year. Port Isaac is as perfect a fishing village as will be found in Cornwall and the hotel oozes authenticity but somehow fails fully to capitalise on its advantages. To stay here however is to stay truly at the heart of the small community as well as slap bang in the middle of the Doc Martin set.

The Slipway hotel is quite simply unique. Positioned on the harbour-side of the most beautiful, ancient coastal cove of Port Isaac, the Slipway Hotel delivers the most extra-ordinary experience of any hotel I have ever stayed in. The comfort of the rooms, the quality of the food, the staff, the service, everything is perfect. Fabulous coastal walks, from the front door, to satisfy the most accomplished fell walkers. Great rocky headlands plunging into the deep blue unspoilt coast line, wild , historic, evocative. Port Isaac has it all and its is frozen in time, there is no where to compare. The Slipway Hotel sits at the centre of the harbour-side, experience outside dining in the most charming position imaginable. Feel the balmy gulf stream air moving slowly through the tiny streets as you enjoy Chablis and lobster while watching the odd traditional fishing boat coming in to anchor. Very good value at motel type tarrifs allowing you to experience something that cannot be recreated. Very special place, please dont ever change anything, the charm is from another age.
