“Go on Doctors Orders!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 9, 2012

Had a great day in Port Isaac, especially as we are Doc Martin fans. Beautiful place to visit with a real community spirit. Had a cream tea at the Old School Hotel which is one of the best I have ever had. The scones were fresh out of the oven - devine!

We stayed in Geography room. Which was lovely and clean, very small and the view was not great as there were small windows but you could see the sea. The staff were very happy and friendly. The breakfast was not as good as expected but edible. There was not much atmosphere in the bar and restaurant - they both seemed a little cold. The location was brilliant as you are in the middle of the village and there are a couple of really good restaurants and bars.

Room Tip: Pay a bit more and have a good view as it is spectacular

Loved it! We stayed in Mathmatics (The Family Room) Warm,Comfortable Bed, no frills and perhaps in need of just a little fresh paint. Seperate room within the room sleeps 2 children in Bunks. ALL staff friendly and helpful, atmosphere great lots of breakfast greetings from the other happy guests. Dogs not allowed in the restaurant (as you would expect) on booking in we were asked if we would like our breakfast in the bar so the dog could join us. Breakfast was great all in all a very relaxing break

This hotel was unusual and quirky. The rooms we had were not large - a single called Religious Studies which had an extremely comfortable three quarter bed and a double room called French, again the bed was comfortable. The rooms were warm especially as it was February with additional heating provided, the views were amazing and there was plenty of pillows. The breakfast was good but unfortunately after the cooked breakfast and toast was delivered no one bothered with us - so we were unable to order more toast or a fresh pot of tea! Such a shame as the rest of the stay was great! A lovely, friendly girl on reception who was very welcoming! Port Isaac is a fantastic, quaint fishing village.

Room Tip: All rooms are different! Some only have a shower head not a shower. All rooms are quiet and you have...

What a great place, we know Port Isaac but this was our first stay, we also love Doc Martin so great being there to soak up the atmosphere and remember all the places featured. The Old School is a lovely old hotel, full of the old school memorabilia, warm comfy rooms, stunning views, superb food, best breakfast we ever had and dinner was really special, the staff were all helpful, but especially Sam who went to so much trouble to make a special birthday extra special. Sam is a star, an asset to the hotel, she really went the extra mile for us. Port Isaac is a gorgeous litle village with lovely walks and made a wonderful winter getaway. We were spoiled with sunny weather, even sat outside the Slipway for lunch on Sunday 5 Feb!!

Room Tip: ask for a room with a view

We booked in advance and had no problem getting the room we wanted - Latin.

The hotel offers free parking for guests, which was fine during our low season stay, but I would think the smalll car park would get very full in high season.

The check in was easy and straight forward, and we had called ahead to say we would be arriving late in the evening. They asked whether we would like food organised for when we arrived.

The breakfast menu was good, ranging from full English, to smoked salmon on scrambled eggs etc. There was also a help your self style buffet consisting of cereals, fruit, juices and coffee. We had full cooked breakfasts both days, which were lovely.

We decided to give the restaurant a go on our second night, and were a little disappointed with the food and the service. My husband had fish pie, which was good and was served with salad. The vegetables were charged as an extra. I had a steak, which was extremely tough, and very chewy, and was served on a very greasy plate. Our wine glasses were removed as we sat down and we then had to ask half way through the meal if we could order some wine.

The hotel is situated in a wonderful spot, and our room was lovely, but we felt that there needed to be a little more attention to detail in the rest of the hotel.

Room Tip: We chose the Latin room, which is a kingsize room. The bed was enormous, bigger than a kingsize, and...

We love this village and the opportunity to stay in the heart of it was not to be missed. The hotel was clearly not built as such and for the smaller rooms you have to go outside and around the building. The rooms were basic but clean and comfortable. The staff were welcoming and cheerful. breakfust is wholesome and there is plenty of it and the evening menu is excellent. There are also good meals to be had withis walking distance in the village.
Brush up on your parking skills and take a small car.
We have only fond memories of our stay

Room Tip: The single rooms are entered from outside the building
