We stayed self catering at Anchor Cottage this April. The cottage is so beautiful, extremely comfortable, clean, bright and cosy. Very homely. The views from the living-room and porch are breathtaking on both sunny and cloudy days. All the amenities are excellent, beds are very comfortable. We had our own car and had the convenient use of a private parking space which was under a 10 min walk away through the stunning village. Plenty to do in Polperro. Yummy pub lunches, check out the Blue Peter Inn which also has live music most nights. The Plantation Restaurant & Tea Rooms is a must for a Cornish cream tea and Michelle's Restaurant has a mouthwatering menu but be warned! book plenty of time in advance. We went on a couple of local walks which showed us some stunning views of the Cornish coastline and Polperro is a good base for sightseeing. It was so nice to come back each day to such a lovely cosy place for a nice hot shower, a warm log burner (very efficient) and a nice glass of wine while sitting in the porch as the light of the day dims. Anchor Cottage is an amazing place to stay!
We booked this cottage last year for a week in May, when i paid the remainder 6 weeks prior to our holiday, i was told that the house was under new management and as a result the whole house was being refurbished, to a high standard, and we would be one of the first people to stay. I asked and was assured that the work had been going on all winter and would be completed in plenty of time
A week before we were due to go, we were informed that the refurb wasnt completed and therefore we would not be able to stop in Anchor Cottage.
After a bit of cafuffle we kindly accomadated in another property, but this did take some negotiation with the holiday company
We were annoyed that this was only confirmed a week before we were due, when it was obvious that this was the case some time before our due date.Whilst in Polperro we found the cottage still not finished, by the end of our week ,so we can only assume more people have also been disapointed .The low score we have given reflects the lack of foresight and planning in the matter .
This cottage is absolutely everything you could ask for in a holiday let. It is spotlessly clean with incredible views from most of the windows. The furnishings are tasteful and pleasing and it is really comfortable with a homely feel. A real bonus is the porch/conservatory on the front with its views and sun trap position. You really can watch the Polperro world go by from here making it very difficult to leave. Another bonus is the lovely garden patio area at the top of some steps at the back of the cottage and the summer house up there, it feels so private and exclusive. The bedrooms are a good size with good wardrobe space. We really can not praise this cottage enough. I suppose the only two areas of improvement I would comment on are the very slow and weak flow of water through the hot tap in the bathroom and the lack of a clock with the correct time but these are minor and in no way detract from the overall delights of staying here.
I travelled with my partner and two 12 yr olds. We loved the cottage it was perfect, the views were amazing and we believed we had the best views of the harbour as we had a tiny conservatory that seated two that led from the lounge looking over the harbour. The views from the lounge bedrooms and kichen were also buitiful. We will definately be booking it again. The locals were really friendly and we could of stayed for a month!! came home two days ago and miss the sound of the seagulls
