“a brilliant stay!”
Reviewed September 5, 2012

We had never visited beautiful Polperro before but were thrilled to discover such a wonderful place and our visit was enhanced by staying at Penryn House Hotel. The rooms were exceptionally clean and very well appointed with every comfort imaginable and the owners Anna and Chris did everything to ensure we enjoyed our stay-the breakfasts were exceptional too! We speak as very seasoned travellers staying away at least 12 times a month on business so we feel well qualified to make comparisons and this was one of the best small hotels we have stayed at. We will certainly visit again!

Like the previous reviewer, our room was a little small, but this was made quite clear to us prior to booking. In fact it wasn't that small, just oddly shaped: as often happens when old large houses are converted for accommodation. That however, is the only negative thing it’s possible to say about the place; the positives are many and are in no particular order. There is plenty of on-site parking, which is indeed a luxury in this ancient village. Penryn House is located almost half way down the lane into the village which means you are still only five minutes lazy walk away from the harbour, but also means that it's slightly removed from the daytime hubbub of the many tourists should you require a little peace. Both the bedrooms and the public rooms are furnished to a high standard, neither modern nor period: our bed was sumptuous and, combined with the sound of the proverbial ‘babbling brook’ literally outside our window, led to some of the best nights’ sleep I have enjoyed in a while. The owners are friendly, helpful and thoroughly pleasant people who provide an excellent standard of service: breakfast was, without being ostentatious, just right. Quality produce perfectly cooked and well presented. We will most certainly return

We spent a 4 break at the Penryn House in August and were disappointed mainly by the lack of space in our room. To be fair, it was advertised as such, but we were very surprised by how small the rooms were. There was very little space around the bed and we both caught our shins on a number of occasions on the edge of the bed. The ensuite was also exceptionally compact, although very clean and functional. There was a very small wardrobe, but very little space elsewhere to store bags etc, although I eventually managed to get one of our holdalls under the bed.

On a more positive note the hosts were welcoming and the breakfast was exceptional and Polperro is an excellent place to visit. The car parking was good and welcome, given the restriction on vehicles entering the village, but had to be very systematic to maximise space and access and egress to the hotel. Despite my 'average' rating, I would recommend it and probably would stay again as I suspect most of the hotels in the village are similar in terms of space. I based my ratings on other small hotels /B&B's that I have stayed for a similar period of time and tariff

Room Tip: Given that the rooms are small and space is minimum I would advise that you travel as light as possi...

The hotel was easy to find and the room was REALLY CLEAN. Everything looked as if it had never been used before. Lovely bathroom with nice big bath, comfy beds and pillows. Loads of teas, coffee, chocolate ect in the room. The breakfast was wonderful, loads of things to choose from and cooked to order so VERY hot.
We would definatly stay again!

Nice welcome when we stayed for a couple of nights recently. Our room on the top floor was compact but spotlessly clean. The variety and quality of the breakfast was exceptional. The car park was a bonus, given traffic restrictions in the village and it was an easy walk to the harbour. We found that mobile reception anywhere in Polperro on our network was none existent, so the provision of wi-fi in the lounge was helpful. Good value.

The Kitchen restaurant 50 yards down the road is highly recommended!

Room Tip: Stairs are narrow to the top floor, access to the first floor is better.

Just got back from a 5 night break at the Penryn House Hotel, we had a warm & friendly welcome from Anna & Chris who always went the extra mile.
Room was clean & nice, and you could not fault the breakfast, great selection of cereals, fresh pastries and a cooked breakfast fit for a king.
We look forward to coming back to Penryn next year and would highly recommend it to anyone wanting a pleasant stay.
Oh and my daughter fell in love with Ella the great Dane.

My wife and I have just returned from a 5 night stay at Penryn House, we were in room 15 and our experience was a good one, Anna & Chris are very friendly and always happy to have a chat, both the bedroom and bathroom were clean and tidy, the breakfast was great and the car parking was fine, you may need a little guidance on parking on your arrival depending upon which space is free as it can be a little tight, nothing to worry about though. Sleep quality was good for us also.

The acid test is always if you would return and in our case yes we would.

See you soon Anna & Chris and Come on you Reds!!
