The food was excellent, but unfortunately the staff are incredibly unwelcoming and rude!

There's no 'hello - how are you?' instead a blank stare - not even 'what can I get you?'. Working in a restaurant myself I try my hardest to make the customer comfortable and spark up light conversation, but here, they just seem like they don't want to be there.

Also, I know there is NEVER nothing to do, but the young girl would just stand there, head in hand, staring into space. Surely the skirting boards could have been dusted, stock could be rotated, the paper towels could have been picked up from the floor in the toilet or any type of cleaning could have been done!

We arrived, and (who I assume to be) owner welcomed us, which was great - but why didn't the waitress?

At one point, a customer came in, both the waiter and waitress had their back to him before the waiter turned around, looked at him, and carried on; not even a hello! Why is it so difficult to greet someone? Manners cost nothing, and I'm sure if a customer was that impolite, they wouldn't be happy!

We paid, and again, the waitress looked at us, said nothing and carried on her way.

It's such a shame, with such a lovely establishment the staff just seem to not care. Maybe if they take the time to chat and even have a laugh with the customers they might even enjoy their job!

I hate to be so cynical but if I would like to know how my customers felt after dining.

Just a simple 'hello - how are you' and a SMILE would make such a difference!

Hi Jessica

Firstly, thanks for taking the time to do a review, it's always good to get feedback.

We're really disappointed to hear how badly our staff handled you and themselves during your visit, we clearly have the need for some staff training sessions.

We absolutely agree that there is nothing worse than disinterested and impolite service, and will prioritise instilling in all our staff these core service sector values.

We're glad that you liked our cafe and the food you ate, but you highlight the fact that this is just part of the visit experience and we need to up our game.

Thanks again for your constructive comments.

Kind regards

Bill & Nicole

Bill the guy serving is so helpful. We asked him what his name was so we could name him on Trip Advisor, so here he is! Great selection of teas and he was very helpful and patient, as choosing cakes/ tea etc can be a serious and lengthy business for us mature ladies. We had a fantastic cream tea and great coffee/ tea served in kitsch tea cups/ teapots etc. We loved this place!

We visited for a cream tea and it was lovely. Superb value for money, fantastic fresh scones with plenty of butter, jam and cream. The atmosphere was pleasant and relaxed and the gentleman serving was friendly and attentive. An all round positive experience and we will certainly visit again when we are next in Penzance.

Really impressed by the attention to detail the new owner has put into his business. Had a lovely coffee and sandwich all competitively priced. Good friendly welcome from a business who respects his regular customers,

Would recommend most highly

Only recently reopened the Blue Bay is in a good position, easy to get into and is in a spot where you can watch the world go by. We stopped in for lunch, had a sharing platter and a tea and a coffee, this was tasty, the olives were great, and pretty inexpensive. Recommended if you are passing or fancy a tasty snack.
