This hotel has plenty to offer in terms of fluffy bathrobes and tasty food, with magazines and free cake at tea time. However, it seems to think that this will prevent you from noticing when they completely mess up your booking and muck you about in the restaurant. Firstly they got my name completely wrong and the address spelt wrong, despite it all being detailed on the email. Then they got our two rooms wrong (also all detailed on email) and wouldnt refund us any money for the inconvenience caused. I was less than impressed to find a pubic hair stuck to the shower wall as well. Then to cap it all, the frightfully posh and expensive restaurant kept us waiting 55 minutes for our evening meal, despite the restaurant being less than half full and the farce over ordering a cooked breakfast is too silly to detail. A shame really, as the food is good and the hotel quite smart, but nothing makes up for lack of attention to detail.

Thank you for bringing these matters to my attention, all concerns which affect the comfort of our guests is of great importance to me, and attention to detail is what we strive for.
You must already have been in reciept of a posted letter of apology and a refund for the inconvenience caused during your overnight stay enroute to/from the Scillies with your adult sons and two dogs. This was drafted and sent by the reception manager within 24 hours. I do hope that your sons enjoyed their upgraded room.

Our Hotel is fortunate to have a 2 rosette restaurant, it is not a fast food operation, everything being freshly prepared & cooked to order, though a quick word with the restaurant manager to the effect that speed is of the essence to you, would have resulted in you being prioritised. Our diners overwhelmingly enjoy a complete dining experience which includes an unhurried pre-dinner drink & relax prior to being seated, clearly on this occasion, this approach wasn't appreciated.
Up until 7pm, lighter meals are available to suit early diners, and room service is available all evening.

We booked this hotel via the tourist information. We'd been travelling around cornwall in a mixture of hotels and campsites and fancied a bit of luxury! I'll keep it brief.

Friendly Staff
Lovely reception and rooms - we had a sea view
Nice pool - if a little chilly at first!
Nice breakfast

I was very pleasantly suprised. It wasn't the cheapest place on our holiday but I thought it was good value for money. The only downside is that there isn't much car parking and it's very steep and strangely angled - people seemed to struggle to park, and ended up parking across 2 spaces, meaning that we had to park down the (mostly residential) street. I'd stay her again if visiting Penzance.

We arrived in Penzance without booking anywhere to stay. On the off chance we tried the Hotel Penzance, and the rest, as they say is history.
From the moment we checked in we knew we would be treated well.
The man on reception attended to our every need and checked us in to a fantastic double room. We were blown away by the sea view and cleanliness of the room.
Even though "The Bay" restaurant was well booked up, we were lucky enough to make a reservation. We had a lovely meal and were well looked after.
The Honesty Bar is a lovely touch and well stocked for that night cap!
The weekend was topped off by being able to enjoy our breakfast on the balcony overlooking the pool and the sea in the distance.
You cannot fault the attentiveness of the staff, the customer service was second to none!!
We can't wait to go back soon.

We loved this place: it's a boutique-style hotel with absolutely fantastic staff, an enviable location looking down on the town (NB it's a short but steep hike uphill if you're arriving without a car) and a top-notch restaurant (The Bay) on site. Our room had two large windows with views across the bay and over to St Michael's Mount and we never heard any noises from neighbouring rooms, contrary to some other reviewers. The complimentary afternoon tea is a lovely touch and we appreciated the fact that there were a variety of places to take it - including the restaurant's outdoor terrace which boasts a truly awesome view, day and night. We also ate in the restaurant for dinner - yes it's pricey but so worth it (try to sample the Cornish wines) - and for breakfast, which was simply superb. If we had to find fault with anything then the position of the pool right below the restaurant means you probably need to have slight exhibitionist tendencies to want to use it when the restaurant's open, but apart from that this is a near-perfect hotel. We'll definitely be back.

We stayed for two nights having booked completely blind on the internet lured by a reasonable website, the idea of a heated pool and the positive restaurant reviews. Echoing some other comments, yes the car park is awkward but we managed and one of the first things you'll likely see in reception is indeed one of the two beautiful long haired cats. The receptionist was pleasant and helpful and while we booked a standard room, we were upgraded to a superior room which wasn't bad I suppose for the rate of £130 a night. Our room (room 10) had a dual aspect view of the bay and St Michael's Mount and was clean, of average size and absolutely unremarkable in decoration. We peeked in the room next door which was being cleaned and it was much smaller and much dodgier in decoration! We were woken early each morning by the people in the room above stomping about - not the hotel's fault that those guests were heavy footed but just a point to note that the soundproofing isn't the best.

In another review, someone said the pool was dirty but while we didn't get to go in it, it did look perfectly clean when we went and surrounded by lovely gardens.

Breakfast was really good with the usual array of cereals, juices and cooked options. The first morning it was warm enough to eat it outside with a view towards the bay which was great but there are only 3 or 4 outside tables.

Dinner was a VERY mixed bag which I'll cover in a separate review of the restaurant but if you like being surrounded by flies (both alive and dead ones stuck to traps), fruit in your starter, uncooked dessert, very reasonably priced wine yet a big total bill then you'll be happy.

We didn't really have many niggles apart from being asked if we wanted a newspaper for the first day and not the second day, being way overcharged for our very honest use of the honesty bar (!!!) and a checkout process with someone lacking any hospitality skills. They are also a bit mean with the wifi access - only 30 mins complementary each day.

For us, the hotel was nothing more than 'ok' - I guess competitively priced, clean, close enough to walk to town, near the main road to get to other places of interest and a good breakfast. Having toured around Cornwall, we think there are plenty of better options near to good restaurants etc. at a similar price so hard to recommend on this experience.

Please be assured that we welcome all reviews, especially those containing details which we can do something about, or that give us the chance to offer the alternate view.
This reviewer has given me consent to make a few corrections, which they were unable to do once their review was posted:-
The next door room into which they peeked was a sea view single room with oversized bed & full ensuite bathroom and consequestly not to be compared in size or price with the double room they occupied. [the decor is a matter of opinion]
The restaurant bill was £130 on account of £60 spent on wine and did include Lobster and Sover sole in the 3 course meal for two.
There was NO charge made for the honesty bar which had in fact been overlooked. [it was the restaurant wine tab]
The plague of flies which was referred to occured during a particularly hot few days when the french windows were open. The unsightly 'fly traps' referred to have now been removed.
Unless guests wish to specify different newspapers on different days of their stay, we assume the one asked for on day one is the one ordered on each day of their stay. You only need to ask and we'll get whichever one you want.

A great hotel, in a good location with fantastic views across the bay.
Staff are warm and friendly (there are two great cats to greet you as well!), the rooms well furnished, clean and comfortable.
Parking was a little tight but you can park on the road outside.
There were two let down in what would have been a perfect stay: the bar was closed early without us being told or being asked if we wanted another drink shortening our evening (the view from the veranda/deck is fantastic!) and the second let down was the breakfast on the second day of our stay! Not the quality, as it was cooked and presented well, the size of the portions were tiny - more a childs portion a kin to a fancy London restaurant - half the size of the day before!... The staff apologised for firstly getting the order wrong and secondly for portion sizes varying although little explanation was offered.
These are two minor moans in what a great weekend at a lovely hotel - we'll be revisiting the Hotel Penzance again!

We were fortunate enough to stay at the Hotel Penzance in June '10 and had a very pleasant experience. The grounds are lovely, rooms very well appointed, and the restaurant was top notch. Excellent and attentive staff. We had bad news from home about my husband's father and the staff was so accommodating in letting us borrow a laptop computer and doing all they could to help us. It is a great location for day trips and there is a view of St Michael's Mount from the sunroom and restaurant and our room had a great view of the harbor. We will definitely be back.
