“Terrible place”
Reviewed August 4, 2013

We arrived on Friday 5 pm. Room is furnished according to the 80's. Very small for 2.No hangers for wet coats, no minibar. Asking for a snack at 7 pm, we were told it is not possible as they were fully booked for dinner. So we had to go to town to find a place for food. No possibility to get any food that night at the hotel's restaurant. Wifi codes did not work, only after going back to reception. Next morning,
my partner was told she can't have a place at the window as she was on her on. She was told that this table was reserved for a couple which never showed up. Only after discussions with staff she was allowed. She was the only one having breakfast that time. Carpark challenging. Pros: bathroom very modern, quality of food good. For 200 £ per night and 4 **** , overpriced. We will not try again as we had a very good, real 5***** experience , only 20 min away, in Talland Bay also not starred.

Thank you for sharing your experience here and allowing a response to your experiences.
We send a pre-arrival email to guests in which we ask for any personal preferences they might have, and asking that they make an online restaurant reservation if they wish to dine, together with links to our various menus. It appears that you preferred not to do this as you may have wished to keep your options open. On your arrival escort to your room you were advised that the restaurant was very busy that night, but that a table could be made available at 8.45 if you wished to dine a la carte. You arrived early in the restaurant at the busy a la carte service time, at 7.15 and asked for items not on the evening a la carte menu, electing not to take the table at 8.45. Although I can sympathise with your predicament, being hungry, you chose not to eat off the all day brasserie menu wich is available before 6.30 [details were in your room]. We would have been happy to have accommodated you with a little forethought, but not unfortunately in an already fully booked restaurant.
The following morning the table your wife occupied at breakfast was preset and reserved for a family of 3 who had been staying all week, 2 of whom are disabled and have difficulty walking very far into the restaurant. It had nothing to do with views although she plainly thought it had and complained loudly to the chef de rang that she was being discriminated against as a single diner - [The staff member was only politely removing the excess settings]. The staff do not know when residents may wish to take breakfast, and tables are never reserved except for special access, or on special occasions, the family obviously did not arrive early that morning, so there was no problem resetting after your wife had left.
I shall look into the wi-fi problem, it's the first I've experienced, except for guests who's laptop or i-pad settings need changing.
We are a 4 star Town House Hotel, not a resort or spa hotel. Our rooms are 'cozy' and do not suit some guests, but there are lots of pictures on the website in order to satisfy yourself that we are what you are looking for, We have an honesty bar in our Davy Room for guests, and red wine and mineral water in the bedrooms together with an Nespresso machine and hospitality tray. As far as wet coat's are concerned, if the 10 hangars in the wardrobe were insufficient we would have happily dried them for you had you asked.
I hope that this serves to put your experiences into perspective, we do try very hard to make everyone welcome and to ensure everyone is well informed in advance.

We stayed at this hotel for four nights in May 2013. The staff were friendly and helpful. Many of the rooms have an outstanding view over the bay. The food in the restaurant is very good. The top-floor "view rooms" have small windows; we asked to be moved to a room with a better view. The hotel graciously granted our request. The hotel serves a complimentary tea each afternoon. Caution: The hotel does not have a lift, and the flights of stairs are very long!

Room Tip: Try to avoid a top-floor room, unless you don't care about the view.

Hotel Penzance is located in a quiet street just a short walk from the railway station, on a hill facing Mount's Bay.

I got a nicely furnished room with a spectacular sea view. The grand bed, facilities for making tea and coffee, a huge bathtub and plenty of towels, nice complementary toiletries and a flagon of drinking water which was refreshed every day added to the comfort.

Delicious cooked breakfast with various fish options (trout or smoked haddock), scrambled or poached eggs etcetera, as well as a buffet with yoghurt, cereal, prunes, toast, jam and cheese, all served in a lovely space with seating options outside as well.

There's even a hotel cat! I'd definitely recommend this for a relaxing getaway. Friendly, no-fuss service and good attention to detail.

The Hotel Penzance is an excellent spot to stay. Albeit a short walk up hill from town, the Hotel is thoroughly organized, well staffed, with lovely view of bay. The Bay restaurant is first rate and a fine spot to have a gin and tonic from the deck. We enjoyed dipping in the pool after day in town or Cornwall tripping.

I think that it is time for me yet again to sing the Praise of my favourite (and The Best) Hotel in Penzance.(Privately Owned, naturally.) This time of Year, the Gardens are stunning. You will feel like you are in the South of France, especially with the Current weather!. The only Hotel in Penzance to boast a beautiful outdoor, heated swimming pool.
I have breakfast there every day, on the covered boardwalk. A rogue Seagull has been terrorising guests and snatching food from their tables. Now, all outside tables have a water pistol on the top. Gets rid of the Bird, and great fun involved!
The Pool to-day was at 24 degrees!
Hotel and restaurant open to non residents. Pop along and view the menus with a coffee or drink. Everybody welcome. Service fantastic. What more can I say?
