“Very good but pricey”
Reviewed July 28, 2013

We stayed at this hotel for four nights in May 2013. The staff were friendly and helpful. Many of the rooms have an outstanding view over the bay. The food in the restaurant is very good. The top-floor "view rooms" have small windows; we asked to be moved to a room with a better view. The hotel graciously granted our request. The hotel serves a complimentary tea each afternoon. Caution: The hotel does not have a lift, and the flights of stairs are very long!

Room Tip: Try to avoid a top-floor room, unless you don't care about the view.

Hotel Penzance is located in a quiet street just a short walk from the railway station, on a hill facing Mount's Bay.

I got a nicely furnished room with a spectacular sea view. The grand bed, facilities for making tea and coffee, a huge bathtub and plenty of towels, nice complementary toiletries and a flagon of drinking water which was refreshed every day added to the comfort.

Delicious cooked breakfast with various fish options (trout or smoked haddock), scrambled or poached eggs etcetera, as well as a buffet with yoghurt, cereal, prunes, toast, jam and cheese, all served in a lovely space with seating options outside as well.

There's even a hotel cat! I'd definitely recommend this for a relaxing getaway. Friendly, no-fuss service and good attention to detail.

The Hotel Penzance is an excellent spot to stay. Albeit a short walk up hill from town, the Hotel is thoroughly organized, well staffed, with lovely view of bay. The Bay restaurant is first rate and a fine spot to have a gin and tonic from the deck. We enjoyed dipping in the pool after day in town or Cornwall tripping.

I think that it is time for me yet again to sing the Praise of my favourite (and The Best) Hotel in Penzance.(Privately Owned, naturally.) This time of Year, the Gardens are stunning. You will feel like you are in the South of France, especially with the Current weather!. The only Hotel in Penzance to boast a beautiful outdoor, heated swimming pool.
I have breakfast there every day, on the covered boardwalk. A rogue Seagull has been terrorising guests and snatching food from their tables. Now, all outside tables have a water pistol on the top. Gets rid of the Bird, and great fun involved!
The Pool to-day was at 24 degrees!
Hotel and restaurant open to non residents. Pop along and view the menus with a coffee or drink. Everybody welcome. Service fantastic. What more can I say?

We stayed here in June as we had family to visit in the area. The hotel is well appointed and clean with great food and service. Fanatastic views across the bay and easy to find. Parking can be a bit of an issue when busy but overall a great hotel.

This hotel is up a hill about a half mile from the train station (where we arrived) and it is a bit of a pull with luggage, but once there you immediately feel relaxed and happy. We were greeted by the friendly staff and one lady even carried our bags up to the second floor. She then offered us tea on the deck outside the restaurant, facing the harbor - perfect. We tossed our bags in the room and proceeded to relax at a table with tea and pastries and a view of the harbor . Since it was late in the day after a long train ride (6 hours) we followed that with a pair of delightful strawberry martinis.
Our second floor room was not the largest we had on our trip but it was fine and had a wonderful view of the harbor. The bathroom was quite large. We ate in the hotel restaurant later that night and enjoyed a very good meal served by the young friendly staff.
It is an easy walk from the hotel into town and the busy harbor. The bus station, which we used to get to Land's End, is right next to the train station. You can also pick up the coastal path near the bus station and take a lovely walk to Mousehole where you can get a very good lunch at 2 Fore Street.
All in all, this hotel is a wonderful place to stay - great location and views, great staff, and good food and drink.

Room Tip: Get a room with a harbor view if possible.

We had a superb room (no 17) with views from one window over to St Michael's Mount and the other across the town and into the distance beyond.
The bed linen was top class - we feel this is so important when you have paid fairly hefty prices for a hotel. We liked the up market coffee maker and the docking station. We aren't so sure about toiletries being dispensed from a bottle on the wall.
Reception at the hotel runs like clockwork, as does the Bay Restaurant which is also where we had our full cooked English breakfast! Why not!
Well done Hotel Penzance - we hope that the town is able to pick itself up from its current fairly depressed-looking state.
But of course you don't go to Cornwall to stay in one place - get out and see all the sights, none are very far from Penzance anyway. Even the open topped no 300 bus (3 hours round Lands End, Sennen Cove, St Ives and Marazion) is worth it.

Thank you for your thoughtful review and helpful hints for fellow travellers.
With regards to the H2K Spa toiletries we supply in the bathrooms, I understand your uncertainty when it comes to dispensers, but these are a high quality product dispense system. We could have offered the same product in individual bottles, but in line with our wish to minimise packaging and waste whilst maximising the quantity of product any guest wishes to use, decided on the smart chrome and acrylic dispensers instead. Our bathrooms are cozy and individual hospitality products need quite a bit of space, I hope we made the right decision for the comfort of our guests.
