The hotel is located along the Promenade yet right on the edge of Penzance. Although it would appear the establishment was recently redecorated the work was not carried thoroughly enough - corridors and staircases were left wanting.

We were quite fortunate in that the wedding party has cancelled their stay there and as a result we got the room overlooking the sea. The rooms at the back were quite depressing, overlooking the bland building right outside and definitely not worth £125 we were quoted.

Our room was spacious, decor quite simple, water taps in the bath were just about working and the bathroom not particularly functional.

If you are planning to stay at Beachfield Hotel insist on the sea front bedrooms or, alrternatively, rooms at the back with at least 50% knocked off the price. Otherwise, there are plenty of B&Bs along the promenade, with a view and much closer to the town centre and amenities.

Thank you for your review, but it appears that you must have stayed in a completely different hotel as all the Beachfield double rooms are at the front of the hotel overlooking Mounts Bay. The hotel is in the process of complete renovation, this takes time and will be completed soon. The bedrooms naturally take priority for the comfort of the guests.

We came down to Penzance for a wedding and booked this hotel late. The premier room we stayed in was very smelly (a putrid dirty wet socks smell) and it felt very unclean. The windows were dirty, so it was difficult to see the view of the sea. The hotel should have charged less than half the going rate for their rooms (£139 per night). I have stayed in much better, cleaner and tasteful places for a lot less.

I was worried when i booked this after reading the other reviews but although i thought it was expensive at £139 per night B&B i was pleasantly suprised.
The reception area was bright and looked like it had only been recently done up as was the dinning room.
The corridor to the rooms is a little old fashioned but our room was bright, spotless and the bathroom also seemed to have been done up very recently.
We had breakfast every morning and the food was fine and the waiter was very pleasant.
The Hotel is beautifully situated on the pronenade and the whole area around penzance is well worth exploring.
We didn't have dinner but there are lovely places to eat in penzance.
Overall i would return to this hotel but do think the rate is a little steep for a three star hotel.

Finding a Hotel/guest house nearby at short notice was proving difficult so was pleasantly surprised to find availability at the Beachfield. On arrival we were welcomed by two gentlemen (i use the term reluctantly) checking in who were totally plastered and acting fairly abusively to both the front of house staff and any other customers. I was surprised to find the woman on the check in desk willing to let them have a room. After about 15 mins of waiting for them to check in we were checked in. First impressions of the foyer where that it was okay and quite nice. Up stairs was a different matter. They had obviously spent a little money doing up the communal areas down stairs and neglected to update the upstairs. The rooms shown on the website are clearly the premier rooms available as the £139 standard double we were presented with was def not up to scratch. The room stank pretty bad and there was a stain on the ceiling. The bathroom although clean, was carpeted and did not suggest hygiene. It didn't appear to have been redecorated since the early 90's. Breakfast was okay but there was annoying loud music throughout prob to drown out the drone of silence between the unhappy customers. The Beachfield strikes me as targeting a nostalgia customer base, drawn in by the grey sea views from the double glazed PVC windows...is this what we are paying for? The elderly i am sure are more than happy to be staying in a place more in line with a by gone era. The beachfield needs to up its game if its going to charge £139 for a standard double. we spent our first night at the dolphin inn on the quayside which although simple and basic appeared more luxurious than its aging neighbour the Beachfield and is def worth the 75 quid a night tag. Paris, the front of house manager who looked after us was a legend! I would recommend the inns and guest houses of Penzance any day of this and a t half the price. Just book in advance to avoid a disapointing and depressing stay at the Beachfield.

I stayed for two nights at the Beachfield Hotel in Penzance in June 2009. The hotel is a good 20 minute walk from Penzance railway station so if you have a lot of luggage, it is more advisable to take a taxi. What I liked about the hotel was the cosy decoration and friendly staff. Breakfast was served in a dining room facing the sea and consisted of a generous portion of traditional English breakfast with fried eggs, sausages, bacon, baked beans, toast, and a buffet spread of cereal and juices. The only disadvantage is that there is no elevator in the hotel so you will have to carry your luggage up to your room.

The room that I had, room 13, was a single room. The room is not very big, but just sufficient for the night's stay.

i paid a small fortune to stay here with a friend. what annoyed me was that at breakfast both mornings, i asked for two fried eggs instead of one, and left off acouple of other items so that it evened out. the miserely cook from the kitchen sent out the full english breakfast minus one or two ingredients, but instead of two large or decent sized eggs, i got two with the tiniest yolks i'd ever seen. when you patronise an establishment and spend money at the bar, to be rewarded with a penny-pinching cheapskate attitude shows how little they value customers. they should get their priorities right. if this seems petty, i'm only reflecting what the kitchen did to me.

I would like to inform you the hotel has been under new management since May 2009. I am the new General Manager my name is Philippe Lefevre. In conjunction with my staff we are working hard to make this charming Victorian hotel, one of the most comfortable and welcoming in Penzance.
We are currently commencing a complete refurbishment of the hotel in order to meet and exceed the expectations of our guests. In early 2010 we will also be launching our new 'Seaview Restaurant' reflecting a flavor of the region and all the fantastic produce it has to offer. I thank all who take the time and effort to write reviews, the good we pass onto our staff as recognition for their efforts and the bad we take onboard, act on and learn from.
