I have always been more than happy eating here, the food and service is always good unlike everywhere else in Penzance which can be very hit and miss, good one day and rubbish the next

My wife and I ate at the Alverne restaurant tonight. We read the review dated 19th September and ate the same that was recommended by the reviewer. We had the early bird 3 course for £14.95 each. Both the Hake main course and the Lamb Lasagne were delicious. We both had Lemon Cheesecake for deserts. It was sublime and a very generous portion.
The house red wine was very tasty, much better than a lot of restaurants.
The service and atmosphere made eating here a pleasure.
We look forward to having the chance to eat here again. Sadly it won't be tomorrow, Sunday, as the restaurant isn't open on a Sunday evening!

We ran across this restaurant by chance today....what find. It was just 6:30pm and the first menu was for the 'early-birds'.... which ended at 6:30. Had to try Lamb Lasagne...OMG.... I was sure the Chef had made his own pasta... so light and tasty.....the lamb bits were amazing as was the sauce and the amazing quality of the sauce was outstanding. My wife had the Fish of the Day... HAKE... wow... so tender and flakey and tasty! The deserts were amazing as well. SO sad to see only 2 other couples in the entire restaurant. Should be packed!

After spending all day during one of the August 2012 bank holidays in West Cornwall visiting tourist places such as St. Ives (the beach), Land's End and St. Michael's Mount in Penzance, we all (7 in total) had built up a very healthy appertite.

We were staying in a lovely family run hotel near Boscastle, North Cornwall over the August bank holidays and specially drove down to West Cornwall for the day. As St. Michael's Mount was the last place we visited, we all decided to find a nice restaurant in Penzance to have dinner before the long drive back to Boscastle.

Everyone wanted to eat some seafood with mussels with 'frites' foremost on our mind!

It was a Bank holiday weekend - Sunday evening, so lots of shops and eateries were not opened. My daughter, a guru with her smartphone found the Alverne restaurant located close by to where we were.

The Alverne was quite easy to find and we managed to to find a car park close by......still chargeable on a Sunday and includes any bank holidays.

We were the first customers of the evening. The 2 waitresses were very polite and helpful in helping us all choose the dishes from the menu. The restaurant also had a special 'black board' menu providing the specials of the day.

We chosed from the blackboard - 'special' of the day.

The starters we picked ranged from whitebait, special 'Spanish' omelette and deep fried squid.

For mains, most of the family choosed the Mussels with onions in white wine sauce with french fries (extras). The portions given were adequate. The mussels quite 'plump' and were reasonable in size, but the white wine sauce was very salty.......chef please go easy on the salt! Other wise the mussels were quite tasty! The reminders ordered beef burger and Lasagne. Again feedback received for these dishes were very good!

All the deserts we selected were delicious! See photos.

The waitresses who served us were attentive and helpful.

Overall the bill averaged around £22 per person.

A sound recommend this restaurant!

Good menu choice and reasonably priced. Food quality was brilliant. We ate both at lunchtime and in the evening and enjoyed both menus.
