The Longboat Inn
Ranked #43 of 82 Penzance B&B and Inns
Reviewed August 11, 2011

I was a bit sceptical about its 2 star rating but need not have been. The location was perfect...across the road from Penzance station and at the end of the pretty high street. Although officially an inn, reception was very clearly marked as you entered the pub area and it was manned by very helpful staff using a computerised booking scheme so no queries about whether I had/hadn't paid as I'd used a comparison website to book. After checking in a delightful young man showed us to our room and carried my very heavy suitcase and explained the out of hours access door and key fob entry system. The twin room was tastefully decorated and furniture looked new. We chose to eat in the inn every night as the food was good and excellent value and the staff so pleasant. They are a real asset to the hotel. Don't miss this opportunity...

Stayed only one night, room and shower not up to expected standard, shower smells of mould. No parking possibilities, we had to park our motorcycles 800m away on a public parking with no security.

A great find if looking for a base in this part of Cornwall with easy access to places like Land's End, Minack Theatre, St Ives,St Michael's etc. Bus station and train station within 100 yards without the noise that might imply. Hotel itself offers a friendly welcome, helpful and informative staff (tell Ryan your plans over the hearty breakfast and he'll add some helpful hints), top notch pub food making the most of local produce and home-made ingredients, it also retains the character of a friendly local pub. Rooms are clean, spacious and en suite with flat screen TV. Minor gripe about wifi access but that seemed to be a town issue rather than hotel itself. Great value for money, hard to beat.

A great location if you are passing through by either train or bus. The hotel is 2 minute walk from the staion (turn right out of the railway station and it is immediately ahead of you). We stayed in room 5 on the very rear of the first floor.

The room is a good sized room, it has a small flatscreen tv with freeview, and free wifi access for your computer or smartphone. This rooms has a double 4 poster bed. We found our linen to be immaculately clean, and the bed comfortable. There are tea and coffee making facilities in the room.

A large selection of towels were left on our bed which were fluffy and clean. A small amount of literature was also left in our room for us to look at to research local attractions and places of interest.

The bathroom was massive and clean, and there were no problems with plumbing as mentioned in other reviews.

We followed other reviewers advice of eating in the restaurant. This Is good advice! The food was delicious, freshly cooked (not reheated) and of fantastic value (we had 2 meal for less than a tenner!), highly recommended. Likewise e breakfast provided was also excellent.

The only concern as mentioned previously was the noise from the pub. We stayed on a Tuesday night, the noise from outside didn't stop till around 2330. To be fair, the owners do warn you about noise before you check in, but it's such a shame that this is the
only thing to be negative about. On booking it does say that weekends the noise goes on till 2am, so I would avoid on a Friday or Saturday night personally.

Room Tip: Higher floors are better, less noise, but no lift.

Conveniently located at the bottom end of Penzance high street, close to the rail and bus stations, the hotel's bedrooms were well-appointed, recently refurbished and spotlessly clean. The staff could not have been more friendly, polite and helpful, and the restaurant was excellent -- the fish in particular was superb, clearly freshly delivered every day. All in all little gem of a pub\hotel for those visiting the Penzance area.

A group of 5 of us stayed for two nights 14/15 March 2011. 3 single rooms, one twin.
On arrival we were greeted by Ryan, who dealt with booking in with such efficiency and friendlyness, it seemed like we were regular customers rather than first time visitors. All allocated rooms were very clean, big enough for our brief stay, and nicely decorated and fitted. The beds comfortable, and linen spotless.
My particular room on the top floor had one of the previously noted sani-flow system toilets that make a bit of a noise when flushed, but it wasn't an irritation. The shower too makes a pumping noise when used (more unusual than annoying), but was clean, big enough, and provided a good amount of water at a good temperature.
The pub downstairs never bothered our party with noise, but we stayed on a Monday/Tuesday.
Dining area for breakfast was cosy and clean, and everything prepared to order by Ryan on our stay. Cereals, toast , plenty of tea and coffee and the 'full Cornish' all included in the room price seemed a pretty good deal.
On the second night we were discussing going out for a meal, but the barman talked us into having it in the bar instead. Good choice! We took advantage of a two for one deal that provided us with excellent beer battered cod, home made chips and peas for £5 each. We stayed on to watch a football match on a big screen (plenty of locals in to watch) then stayed on to play the Tuesday night quiz. Well done that barman, you captured us for the evening!
In fact, that is a pertinant point, because everyone that works here seems to have a genuine interest and enthusiasm for the place, that makes you feel they want you to enjoy it. The barman is keen you eat there, Ryan will tell you about the place, and show you their fantastic little cinema, the barmaid will encourage you to try the sweets after your meal, all as if they had a stake in the success of the place. (A rare thing in hotel service)
We struggled to find any negatives here.(Disabled access would be a problem, and we found a window that wouldn't open). Nowhere is perfect, but you get the impression the staff at the Longboat are working on it!

Stayed for two nights. Bedroom was very clean and comfortable. Lovely breakfast and staff were extremely helpful. Very convenient for all amenities with rail station being very close. We would definitely stay here again should we find ourselves visiting Penzance in the future.
