“Surf Shack Stay Oct 2011”
Reviewed March 25, 2012

A great alternative to a B&B, cannot beat the location - open the hut door to the beach! ..Just behind the huts (depending on season) there is a bar/ restaurant / cafe which can (by prior arrangement) arrange a beach BBQ for a number of guests! Alternatively yoy can ordeer from the menu. - the Showers are clean and roomy and there is a seperate kitchen are for guest use - although not sure it ever gets used. Shacks sleep up to 4 in two bunk beds and are comfortable and have (when i visited) 24 /7 security hut located nearby. Lots of steps! as its at the bottom of a cliff. Take your family on a beach hut break they will not forget today! ...I promise be it with a friend, spouse or family (inc kids) - it will be enjoyable.

Room Tip: beach bar is directly behind shacks, so if a BBQ is planned it may be a little more noisy for a time...

Had a lads weekend planned in Newquay, googled cheap hotel newquay and this place popped up. £210 for 3 nights in a 2 bed apartment........Expecting something similiar to a travelodge standard, couldn't of been further from the truth.

Absoloutley amazing apartment, perfect location on the beach and unbelievable value for money!

Just book it, you will love it!

Room Tip: All the apartments looked the same from the outside, the upstairs bedroom was the best of the two!

My partner and I stayed here for 3 nights over the New Year and absolutely loved it. The apartments are all named after local lighthouses and we were in ‘Godrevy’ which is a 2 bed in the middle of the block.

The apartments don’t look anything special from the outside but are really beautiful inside and have been equipped to a high standard. There was plenty of cutlery (all matching and clean!), washing up liquid, scourers and tea towels in the kitchen, as well as tea/coffee/sugar and milk. The showers were nice and hot although the en suite shower did not have very good pressure so we used the shower in the main bathroom instead which was much better. My only negative comment re the bathrooms was that there was no hand soap in either and I think this should be provided as standard. The bed was very comfy and the black out blinds were amazing.

The front room has 2 x double glazed doors leading to a balcony overlooking the sea. It was too cold to enjoy the balcony but the views from the sofas were beautiful. The front room does not have a heater in it so we did find it got chilly, although warm blankets were provided on the sofas.

The apartments are situated right on the beach, and are accessed by a steep winding road or about 130 steps.

Tolcarne beach is a popular spot for surfing. I had a surf lesson on the beach from an instructor based at the surf school on Fistral beach which was great fun and very reasonable.

I would definitely recommend the apartments and would love to go back when the weather is a bit nicer!

We stayed here after the New Year's celebration and we were very impressed. The appartmet was lovely with a wonderful view of the beach. The only difficulty was locating the road down to the appartment and then negotiating it for the first time. The appartment was warm and welcoming with all necessary for a short break. The weather was wild and windy but we were able to walk along cliff tops, visit The Eden Projcet at a quiet time and drive to Land's End where we were among the few to venture out towards the end on a very windy day. All in all we had a super break.

Forget the rest, just use your money wisely and book this accommodation.

They deserve the praise you see on this site because they understand how to offer customer service and quality accommodation.

The location is stunning and the apartments all you could wish for.

We were impressed and when I stay in Newquay again, I shall book again.

Thank you for the champagne and flowers we had a lovely wedding anniversary.

Stunning location, set on the beach of Tolcarne in Newquay, a private beach open to the public during the day time.

I've stayed at Tolcarne beach bungelow 4/5 times over the past 15 years usually during the summer. This time however it was the first week of December and a long deserved weekend break.

Despite the cold, breezey and wet weather, there is something still magical about being able to watch the rolling waves crash onto the beach from your sofa.

There are not many places you can stay where you can walk out of your front door onto your patio and straight onto the golden sand of a beautiful beach with the cliffs as your back drop.

The beach bungelow has a twin and a double bedroom and a sofa bed in the lounge. The decor has a contempoary look but staying true to the traditional seaside feel.

The bathroom boasts a large shower and a large victorian style bath, with 4 of us staying their we never ran out of enough hot water.

The Kitchen has everything you would need while on holiday, a large fridge freezer, microwave, washing machine, oven, hob etc.

The lounge area has 3 good sized sofa's, a flat screen tv with freeview.

Ouitside you have a patio area with storage for your wet suits, patio furniture and plenty of room for a BBQ.

Now, there is a review I read on here from Tomangojo which complains that the apartments say they are dog friendly and that it is a joke as no dogs are allowed on the beach.

Well Tomangojo should of gone to specksavers. The beach bungelow is advertised as dog friendly (not the apartments) and during the summer dogs are allowed on the beach before 9am then after 6pm (I think). And during the day you can walk your dog up the cliff road if you want to go out(which backs onto the bungelow) or let it out on your patio area. During the winter months you can let your dog on the beach anytime.

Tolcarne beach also boasts a restaurant (Kahuna) which I ate at twice and was suitably impressed by quality and price (it was a rubbish cafe when I first stayed here). There is also a shop and cafe bar, surf shack facilities, glamping, suff lessons and hire. Is this what Tomangojo described as very poor facilites????? I think not.

I could be picky and reel off a few minor annoyances that I found with my stay, but why bother? Im not on here because I think I am AA inspector and my laptop gives me a little bit of power trip.

The reason I don't feel the need to find fault is because it's all about location and the overall experience you are left with, and Tocarne ticks all the boxes

Room Tip: If you want to eat at the Kahuna restaurant in the summer, then book in advance

The apartments are really as great as the pictures on their site - you couldn't want anything more from the facilities - not good if you have mobility problems (although there may be some apartments with better accessibility). Good to have tea and coffee (and mince pie's) on arrival and a well stocked kitchen (although some salt and pepper would be good). Access is down a very tight (but manageable) road and thanks to Millie for giving another parking space as they are very limited and we were lucky the place wasn't full. Highly recommend staying here.

Room Tip: tesco (to the left) and pizza express (to the right) at the top pf the stairs
