“Genuine Fish Restaurant by the Harbour”
Reviewed August 25, 2013

Great sea food and fresh fish. High recommendation to those who really enjoy genuine sea food in a great ambience! The lovely New Quay harbour is literary in front of your table. Staff is also very friendly. Menu is really sophisticated. It is not cheap but worth every penny!

“Fantastic food and location”
Reviewed August 22, 2013

Arrived at the restaurant and was initially disappointed due to having chosen the restaurant for the spider crab, we were then told they were off the menu. Also the online menu differed online.

But after the starters this was soon forgotten, they were all fantastic and I am sure we got the best seats in the house and even had a friendly seal swim by!

The mains were fantastic in particular the monkfish special

We didn't go for the sea food platter but saw a few and although pricey it would be fantastic to share (and big enough).

We were not rushed by the waiters and had a nice relaxing evening. They were very polite and attentive (but not overly)

We didn't have pudding but did have coffees which were lovely.

We did struggle to find though as we thought it was called new harbour!

Definitely worth a treat and reasonably priced.

“A great find....and a great steak!”
Reviewed August 20, 2013

We visited here for my friends birthday meal on our last night of a long weekend break in Newquay. As the least seafood loving of the group of six I was a bit fished out and not looking forward to it that much. But I was in for a real treat. The setting was great and we were seated out on the decked terrace at a table laid out to allow us to be able to converse easily together. The patio heater was on beside us and the table lit in candles which allowed for a lovely ambience.

As a starter I opted for the harbour chowder, and was so glad I did, it was absolutely amazing, packed with mussels and white fish with a lovely creamy consistency. It came with a huge basket of bread which I shared with my friends and the chowder went around the table at least once for all to taste. Other starters were scallops with peas and a lobster salad both of which were thoroughly enjoyed.

For a main course I had the sirloin steak, which came with some thick cut chips, a mushroom with Welsh rarebit topping and some home made onion rings. I ordered the steak medium and it came out cooked to perfection, very tender and really tasty. The mushroom and onion rings were spot on and despite having a very healthy appetite I couldn't finish the whole plate as the steak was really big. Again some of my friends shared the steak and all agreed that it was really good. The other mains of dressed crab were raved about by the girls and the fish pie was also very good.

We brought our own birthday cake and were provided with plates, napkins and cutlery....they even took some pics for us. The service was great, the staff friendly, the ambience was lovely, we were the last to leave on the Sunday evening and did not feel rushed out in any way.

Would highly recommend this restaurant if you are anywhere in the area...we had visited The Seafood Restaurant in Padstow for lunch the previous day and 5 out of 6 of us agreed that the food here was much better....and it was a lot less pricey!

“Lovely food and atmosphere”
Reviewed August 20, 2013

I recently went to Newquay with a group of girls for a weekend away. Someone where we were staying recommended a seafood restaurant called The Boathouse to us for a nice evening meal, so we booked a table for our last night. The restaurant is in a great setting overlooking the harbour, you walk down some stone steps to the restaurant and are greeted by a pool of the biggest fresh lobsters I've ever seen!

Once inside, the restaurant has a lovely homely feel. With a warm wooden interior and large candles on every table, the atmosphere is immediately relaxing and friendly. There is also a restaurant black lab who wondered up and down the beach and then curled up in a warm corner, which enhanced the country feel. The restaurant has a decking area where you can admire the view (roofed overhead with open sides) - they have thought ahead here and the decking is provided with multiple heaters to keep you warm, as well as plastic covers that roll down and fasten shut along the open sides to protect you from the typical English rainy weather!

The only negative comment I have is that the service was quite slow. We were all seated for quite a while before even our drinks orders were taken. By the time a waitress came to take our drinks order we were ready to order our food, but were informed she had to check to see if the kitchen was ready before we ordered?! This seemed a bit odd and meant to had to wait even longer before ordering.

Following this there was a fair gap before we received our meal, but when we did it was delicious! I had one of the dishes from the specials, which was poached turbot in white wine and cream, with asparagus and saffron infused rice. A few of my friends had the fish pie, another had the dressed crab and the last had the lobster pasta. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals, definitely one for the seafood lovers to try! I would recommend it and like to visit again.
