“Superb dining experience with majestic views and excellent service!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 18, 2009

My husband and I stayed in Newquay this past weekend to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. We enjoy finding quality restaurants around London with interesting atmosphere and great food. We wanted to find a special restaurant for our anniversary dinner, with amazing views of the local beaches and harbour and situated away from the noisy tourist crowd on the main street (singles and young families during peak school holiday season).

The Harbour Hotel was recommended by a local tourist agent as being a popular restaurant for good ambiance and fine dining, and also slightly off the beaten track.

We enjoyed our gourmet dining experience (pan fried Hake wrapped in prosciutto served with a side of roast tomatoes and risotto cakes and baked Halibut served with hand cut chips, fresh herbs and a bearnaise sauce)- so much so that we went back the following evening for a more casual dining experience to enjoy a supreme version of traditional fish & chips and a second serving of the delightful roast pepper and tomato soup entree.

Highlights include mouth watering seafood and second-to-none hand cut chips, fantastic service and a breathtaking view of the harbour and surrounding beaches, seated on the balcony indoors or al fresco. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone interested in quality fine dining accompanied by a view second-to-none. It also looks like a lovely place to stay, especially if seal spotting is included!!

Thank you to The Harbour Hotel staff for making this a memorable occasion.

We were in Room 4 which is v small but perfectly formed. All rooms have a balcony overlooking the harbour and the sea. The hotel is in the centre of town but off a side street which means that it is away from the noise, hustle and bustle. Staff were friendly and helpful and breakfast was lovely and freshly cooked. They also have a restaurant for lunch or dinner and we had dinner there one night which was the nicest meal we had throughout our stay - recommended especially if you like fresh fish. Can't recommend it highly enough and we would definetly return if going back to Newquay.

We had lunch and dinner here. Both times the food was absolutely excellent, and the service was great. Views over the harbour are lovely. Newquay is in short supply of decent restaurants - make sure you don't miss this one. Just down from the Red Lion pub, at the Fistral beach end of the harbour.

Best restaurant inside Newquay town. We've been to most of them, and thoroughly enjoyed this. My only wish is that we had returned here instead of trying the 'New Harbour Restaurant' on the harbour itself.

Just returned from 3 nights in this wonderful small hotel. The web site said we would see seals in the harbour, fat chance I thought!. Looked out of our window, guess what! yes seals fantastic. The weather was cool but we still enjoyed sitting on the wonderful balcony drinking in the scenery & the wine. This place seems like a little oasis in Newquay. I have to say that if it wasnt for 'The Harbour' I would probably never go to Newquay again but its certainly more than enought to entice me back.

We spent a lovely long weekend at the Harbour Hotel.

We were in two rooms; Room 1 for myself, hubbie and our 17 month old, and Room 4 for my Mum. Room 1 was spacious; we had lots of room to move around even though we had a travel cot in there, courtesy of the hotel. Room 4 was compact - okay for a single person but it would have been cramped if there were two people in there (it had a double bed).

There was a wonderful jacuzzi bath in Room 1 - a real treat! Room 4 a small shower room. Both had Molten Brown goodies as well as other treats, e.g. a bar of chocolate left for you each day! Both had a DVD player incorporated into the TV, and you could hire a good selection of DVDs from the hotel.

The views from all five rooms at the hotel are amazing - each has its own terrace which overlooks the harbour but also all of Newquay's wonderful beaches all the way up to Watergate Bay.

Breakfast in the hotel was lovely - good quality, well presented food with amazing views.

The location of hotel is great - a short walk from the town centre but away from all the hustle and bustle / busy bars. Be warned that the hotel's on quite a steep hill if you have difficulty walking.

We ate most nights at the Fort Inn, a few minutes walk away from the hotel. It was perfect for families with children - with an indoor and outdoor play area and kiddies menu. One night we got takeaway fish and chips from Truscotts a bit further down - they were fantastic!

There were two 'downsides' to the hotel - firstly the parking, which is on the street outside. Fortunately we always managed to get a space outside the hotel but I can image it gets a bit hit and miss in the peak season. Secondly, the restaurant wasn't open in the evening, which was a real shame as I've heard so many wonderful reviews about it. Apparantly it only opens in the peak season from the end of May. To be fair though, we did know this when we booked.

We did lots of sightseeing during the day - Newquay is perfectly located for seeing Cornwall. Land's End was about 70 minutes drive away. We stopped at St Ives on the ways there (though it was ridicously expensive to park there for a few hours, nearly £12 for parking / bus!). The Tate wasn't very well signed and was closed when we eventually found it! Padstow and the Eden Project were also easy trips out.

I can highly recommend eating at Fifteen restuarant and Lewinnick Lodge - we had two wonderful lunches there. The views from both restuarants are amazing.

Stayed here for the Easter Break - what a fabulous location, views from the bedrooms are stunning, you could sit on your balcony all day watching the Harbour. We ate in the restaurant one of the evenings and the food is locally sourced and beautifully cooked. Breakfast is excellent as well! We have stayed at the Headland in the past but will come back here if we can get in!!! We stayed in room 4 which is compact but the fabulous weather made up for the small (ish) room, they have quality furnishings and nice little extras in the rooms
