We have just r.eturned from a short break to Newquay with Shearings after staying at the Beresford Hotel. Whilst my first impression of the hotel from the outside wasn't a good one, it looks rather tired and drab, my spirits lifted when we entered. We stayed from March 31st until April 4th and the hotel was really nice. Our room, number 2, had just been redecorated and was very nice and spotlessly clean. More than adequate for our needs, although we found the wardrobe a bit tiny for two of us. The bathroom was spotlessly clean albeit a bit tired. The loo and sink were the old 'Advocado Green' but with a new white lid and seat on the loo and a new white sink on the pedestal. But clean and kept that way for the whole week. The staff in the hotel were lovely, really helpful and very friendly especially our waitress who I think was called Laura (Table 38) Nothing was too much trouble for her. The food was lovely and always hot. The service at mealtimes was excellent. The rest of the hotel was clean and bright. My only comment would be that it was too hot in our room and in the restaurant - however, as my husband pointed out some of the guests were more elderly than us and probably found the temperature to be just right. Maybe the hotel could consider having some way that a guest could control the radiator in their room so that the heat could be reduced when necessary.

Hi Jan

I am so pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us at the Beresford and found everything to your satisfaction.

At the moment it is quite hard to control the heating in the Hotel, the weather is so unpredictable and unsettled. I have looked at the radiator in your room and the thermostat did need repair!

Thank you for your comments

Kind regards

Just returned from a five day break with Shearings. We had a really great holiday at this hotel with twelve friends. The staff are just so helpful, from our waitress (who was really excellent), our roommaid, the reception staff to the bar staff. All the staff just cannot do too much to make your stay pleasant. Rooms are clean and comfortable (some on the small side - but hey, who wants to spend time in their room when on holiday!) and the views from the lounges and dining room, all looking over the sea, are just great. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough for value for money.

Room Tip: Worth paying extra for a sea view room

Returned yesterday from our trip too Cornwall, staying at the Berestead Hotel in Newquay. Was a bit concerned at some of the reviews but it was such a good price we decided to book.So glad we did.Lovely welcome from the lady on reception, given the key's to room 20 which had been refurnished, just a shame they didn't treat the damp first on the wall's by the window as it was coming through already. The only down side was the awful droning noise in the room from the heating system. The food was brilliant, service very good from the waitress.Tip,we paid to park out the front of hotel & used our bus pass to go out & about.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the refurnished rooms when booking.

Hi Lynette

Thanks for your comments on trip advisor, I am delighted that you had a good time here, and that you managed to see a lot of Cornwall, it is such a beautiful place.

We are dealing with the problem you spoke of in room 20 and this will hopefully be finished next week, as you say it is such a shame to have a lovely room with a damp problem. The winter storms were the cause, they really did batter us this year!

Bay Hotels are offering some great deals at the moment, with hotels in some fantastic locations for you to explore.

Thank you again

Kind regards

On are way home and have stopped to put a review of this hotel. After reading other reviews before we left slatting this hotel ,we found it very unfair .This hotel is clean ,with good staff , reasonable standard of food and great sea views( get seaview room worth extra) . All said and done better than 2star nearer 3.5star well worth the money .Will return to this hotel .

Room Tip: Get seaview room worth it.

a room with a skylight, and a tubular tele with 6 stations max, plus an officious receptionist who told me the car park was adjacent to the hotel was not a good start - having found the prepayment car space and given an alternative room with no skylight and a flat television with 80 channels (but no sky news 82 was missing) the rest of the week was fine food was good, wifi in reception and a weatherspoons pub in walking distance meant Shearings were able to keep their Worthington Cream flow

Room Tip: avoid the one with a skylight

if you want to be looked after then this is the hotel for you.JACKIE and her staff are always
there to please you, the rooms are clean and warm, very comfortable beds with a good supply
of tea and coffee.the restaurant is a busy place but food is always hot and presented nice by
a very fast but pleasant waiting staff, the bar is well stocked and open from 10.00am till midnight.
if you have a problem with anything or want information just ask reception.(jackie likes a coffee
when she arrives to kick start her day) i cannot praise just a few members of staff because
everyone i had dealings with was polite.
i must say our drivers DARREN (the chef) and CHRIS (the comic) were both very safe and careful.
from both of us a big thankyou
