The beresford is well located in newquay and also great for coastal path walks. It does need updating but it wouldn't put me off going again. The food, staff and evening entertainment were all very good as was the drinks vouchers ( a definite bonus).

Hi tracy

Thank you for your comments, I hope you got to walk some of the coastal path, it really is very beautiful.

If you dont get down to Cornwall again, why not try one of our other Bay Hotels, their are 40 in the group, in amazing locations, all offering great value for money.

We have just returned from a 4 night break at the Bay Beresford hotel, our second holiday with Shearings and this hotel proved to be just as good as the first one we stayed in. Being vegetarian I am particularly pleased that veggie sausage is offered for breakfast and the general variety of meals offered is particularly good since the restaurant must be on a tight budget judging by the cost of our holiday which also included 2 excursions and 4 free drinks each day. In fact we actually paid around £10-20 more than some of the guests as the lucky ones managed to book their place just at the right time that Shearings temporarily reduced the price to ensure the coach was full, however all the guests we spoke to during our stay agreed that it was excellent value and it is difficult to see how Shearings do it at the price.
Our room was spacious with plenty of drawer and wardrobe space, hairdryer, full size kettle with numerous options for drinks, tea, coffee, decaff, numerous sachets of sugar including saccarhine and between 8 and 12 little cartons of milk replenished daily. Towels were changed almost daily even though we had put them on the heated towel rail intending to reuse them.
The entertainment was not bad, there was bingo nightly but this was only for 3 games each evening so non bingo players did not have to sit through long periods of silence. There was a music quiz on 2 evenings which we found very enjoyable and the comedian booked for the night before departure was very good.
The only reason this review did not get full marks is because the lift only takes 2 people or 1 person with a suitcase, but cases were dealt with by staff so there is no requirement to move your own luggage if you do not wish to, and there was some refurbishment going on during our stay which in the long term will lead to more up to date decor.
All in all we were more than satisfied with our stay, the helpfulness of the reception staff when I enquired about visiting a doctor for my partner and the cleanliness of the hotel in general.

Hi

It is great to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us and appreciated the great value for money that these tours offer at the moment.

Cornwall is always beautiful and the winter has its own charms, but seeing the area in the summer is breathtaking and I hope that you come to see us again then.

Just returned from a Shearings trip to the Bay Beresford in New Quay.

I am 44 and was travelling with my 16 year old son and parents (63 and 65)

As stated in previous reviews the hotel is dated and in need of a total refit but I understand that this is imminent.

Hotel is in a very good location within easy walking distance of the town

Reception

Staff very pleasant and helpful. Special thanks go to Jason who we contacted before hand because of concerns over meals for my son

Rooms

We were in room 54 which was on the third floor (up seven flights of stairs and 39 steps - we counted them). There was a lift but this is tiny and we were concious that most of the hotel were much older and less able to use the stairs so we left it to them to use

The room had a single and double bed in it both of which were comfortable and clean. The room was shabby but perfectly adequate. The bathroom was cold as it had no heating and the shower was only just useable - little pressure and a bit erratic

The TV was rather small and didn't have a good reception or choice of channels - but I expect these will be replaced in the upgrade

Meals

The dining room was pleasant and roomy. We were allocated a table for the entire trip and never ha to wait either to sit or be served. Our waiter was a lovely lad called Paul and nothing was too much trouble for him - a real credit to the hotel.

The choice of meals was good and the food tasty. Because my son is a fussy eater we had let the hotel know in advance and they had arranged for him to have food he would eat seperate to what was on the menu - this was very much appreciated

Breakfast was hot and tasty with plenty of choice.

Each night there was 3 choices on the menu as well as one on the specials board

I must mention though that the meals were nice but neither breakfast or the vegtables with the evening tea were particulary large

After tea each evening coffee and tea were provided in the lounge area

Entertainment

4 free drinks each day were included in the trip. The bar staff were polite and friendly.

There was a pool table and a darts board as well as TVs showing sky etc

The music and cabaret that I heard were sutable for the age range. My parents enjoyed it every night and said it was good

Room Tip: Ask for a low floor if you have trouble with stairs

Hi

Thank you for your comprehensive review of your stay, it really helps other potential guests to be given very clear information.

I am pleased that your son recieved the menu that he wanted and that you all enjoyed the food, Phil, our Head Chef, works so hard to try and please every diet and usually succeeds. Paul is a great waiter and deserves your praise.

The Beresford is an old seaside hotel built at the turn of the last century and has been updated many times to meet the current market. This is an ongoing project and in a big building like the Beresford some of the major work undertaken will not be that apparent to our guests, whilst the new bedrooms are immediately appreciated.

Most of our Bay Hotels are in great locations and families of all ages can enjoy the comfort of the hotels - I hope that you and your familiy enjoy more holidays with Shearings.

Kind regards

Hi

Thank you for taking the time to comment on your holiday with us.

Katie and Tina will be delighted to be mentioned again, they are great staff and it gives them such a boost to see that their efforts are appreciated.

The Hotel is undergoing continual refurbishment, but you can imagine, that with 103 bedrooms, this takes time. The Company are at present working with Contractors to renew the lifts, and this would obviously be a big bonus to us. Both the Esplanade Hotel in Paignton and the Ship and Castle Hotel in St Mawes have been replaced in the last 18 months and this has proved a great assett to those Hotels.

Thank you again for taking the time to comment and we hope to see you back in Newquay again.

Kind regards

Booked this short break with Shearings. In summary this was an excellent value for money holiday. Nothing was too much trouble for the Hotel staff. The variety on the menu we felt catered for most tastes. Entertainment was good and with four free drinks each per day there was no added expense of bar bills. It is fair to say that the Beresford is a tired old gal, however, bearing in mind the cost of the trip one cannot realistically expect top notch. We gather refurbishment is taking place. Our beds were clean and the en suite was adequate. This Hotel is situated a short stroll from the town centre and offers spectacular views over Tolcarne beach. If you have never tried the Shearings experience we highly recommend you give it a go. This all inclusive break was well worth every penny and more.

Room Tip: Our room was allocated. Tip, there were no complimentaries other than a small piece of soap and the...

Hi Sue

Thank you for your comments on trip advisor.

More and more people are using this site to help them choose their holiday and your comments will help them decide. We are offering great value for money, especially with the "book before you leave" option.

We have had several bedrooms and bathrooms refurbished this year, and this is a rolling programme so we expect to have more work taking place this winter. The new bedrooms and bathrooms are bright and airy, in lovely modern colours - we love them!

I am so glad that you enjoyed the food and found the staff to be polite and helpful, they all work hard to ensure that you have a good time with us.

We hope to see you again in Newquay soon.

kind regards

Hi

Its so nice to hear that you enjoyed your break with us and found the food and the staff to be great!

These early spring tours are such good value for money and the entertainment at night just makes it that bit more enjoyable.

There are some excellent deals in the newspapers at the moment for most of our Shearings Hotels, maybe you could fit another holiday in?

Thanks for commenting on trip advisor
