we have stayed with parkdene before and i would like to say this site is not the best, but the location is brilliant, just a short stroll to the beach. we had booked the best accomodation that they had to offer, a caravan new for this year, and overall it was ok. the bedroom/bathroom at the rear of the caravan was suffering from damp and there was mould growing on the walls, probably something to do with the positioning of the caravan as it over-hung the stream and was in the bushes. we were also disapointed with the facilities, when booking the brochure states club, restaurant and takeaway and maybe on bigger sites this is the case but at holywell it is all in one, everything operates out of the small club room and i dont really want to sit and eat a meal somewhere where i am surrounded by screaming kids running around or while the old ladies do there bingo. try the treguth inn just down the round, excellent meals can be found here.
overall for the money it was ok, got a good deal as it was out of season, there would be no way i would pay peak season prices.

This was my third stay at this park, i've always had a good experience with Parkdean, having stayed two of their other parks in Cornwall as well as Holiwell Bay. The site is fairly small and not overcrowded like some ofther parks i have seen. The caravans are well spaced in little clusters in the valley so you have a reasonable amount of privacy.

I alway book the newer caravans with double glazing and central heating so noise and comfort has never been an issue. This year my caravan was new for 2012 and was very well fitted out. There is a full sized cooker, large fridge freezer and a microwave. In the longe there was a large screen freeview TV, a dvd payer and a cd radio.

The restaurant facilities had a major revamp in 2011 and are much improved. Without exception i have found all the staff friendly and efficient.

As others have said, there is no mobile reception in the site, i have tried Vodafone, T-Mobile and O2. You can get some signal on O2 at the entrace to the site, but really you have to accept that you are on a remote bit of the Cornish coast. There is free wifi available in the clubhouse, but i think we are sharing a very basic connection so when the site is busy, it can become all but unusable. But i doubt there could get anything better in such a remote location.

From the site there s a footpath to the fantastic beach. The sand dunes can be a little tough to walk across but the beach is well worth the effort.

we stayed at this caravan park recently 3rd september on a sun holiday monday to friday never again we have had several sun holidays always had good sites and lovely caravans we always upgrade the site was not very good and the first caravan we were given we refused as it was very damp dark and dismal with a great view from the dining area of all the rubbish bins which were right outside our window. The second van was not much better the wife had to sleep in here dressing gown as the plastic covered mattress was so cold, also very lumpy, the seating area in the lounge area was also very damp, no sound on the tv, and the fridge fell apart when we opened the door, went home a day early as we cound not stand it anymore, so do not bother going here.Very noisy when people were leaving the club at night
If our van was an upgrade god help those people in a basic van, this has turned us off going on sun holidays for life

Chosen because of it's close proximity to the beach I had never been to Holywell Bay or this caravan park before. Our need is for a clean ,comfortable base in a good location from where we can spend the majority of time out and about , at beaches or exploring. We don't use the entertainment facilities apart from if there is a good swimming pool. Which there was ,albeit outdoors, and not as "heated" as we would have liked.
We weren't disappointed with the location. Holywell has a lovely beach with many aspects to it making it very suitable for all ages ; surf,sand-dunes and a small river as well as coastal walks and spectacular views. There are also just enough small shops and two very decent pubs in Holywell village. The only downside being no toilets on the beach so a bit of a trail back and fro to the village if you have small children. There also seem to be rather a lot of dogs running free on this beach.
The beach is a very short walk from the caravan site and we were lucky enough to have good weather throughout our stay. We were accommodated in one of the bungalows in a quiet tucked away position. I would have been less happy if we were in one of the caravans close to the club-house area which is fairly dominant on this site. The sound of arcade machines and amusements was extremely dominating. Seems a shame in such an otherwise quiet , tasteful and secluded village site. But I have to say this was reflected in some of the users of these areas. We just don't happen to agree with little children running in and out of amusements and pubs well into the night ; and apparently they don't switch off untill 11 pm !!
Whilst the site is just about the right size being neither too big or too small some of the accommodation does seem to be in need of general up-dating and although our bungalow was probably as clean as it could be for it's age and condition things like carpets in bathrooms just should not be allowed ! Unfortunately there was a general smell of age and damp about the place so I am just glad most of our time could be spent out and about enjoying the lovely weather and breath-taking beach area
. As others have mentioned there is a problem with no mobile signal in the area although I was able to use the Orange network on certain parts of the beach. The strength of signal did fluctuate though.
Would I go back ? Yes certainly to Holywell Bay. I probably would ,on balance , book this site again but would have to be choosy regarding the location and standards of the accommodation itself. Most definitely away from the club-house !!

Have just returned from a weekend, stayed in No 21. It was tired, old and felt abit damp. We had trouble lighting the fire in the lounge and also the gas hob, ended up using matches.
We had beautiful weather for 2 days, but when it changed decided to come home early, i think that says it all !!

We stayed a week at Holywell Bay, mainly for a break and also to visit family. We rented a Porthtowan Caravan but got a Portreath instead which as bigger with an extra bedroom so no complaints there. We arrived early and although our caravan wasn't quite ready on arrival the freindly receptionist said that she would call if I left my mobile number. As we had some shopping to do for the week, we popped to the shops and whilst out got a message to say the van was ready so once we had finished shopping we were able to go straight back, unpack and start our holiday. The caravan was clean, but the double bed was not the most comfy, I think the springs in the mattress had seen better days. There was just the 3 of us, my husband, myself and our 10 year old granddaughter. the beach was a 10 minute walk away, but unfortunately a further 10 minutes to get the the sea when the tide was out (ok slight exaggeration, but it felt like it sometimes!) The waves are great for surfing and bodyboarding and the beach nice and sandy with plenty of sand dunes to climb and explore which our granddaughter thought was great until she read the sign about the adders basking in the sun, and then she wasn't so keen :). We went to the club for an hour at most each night, we are not one's for bingo and thought the entertainment was on a bit too late - most nights at 9:30-10:00pm so didn't stay to watch. the pool was good fun, with the waterslide which was open for 20 minutes every hour. If you are glued to your mobile phone then not the place for you as no signal whatsoever although there is free wi-fi in the bar if you need it. Overall we had a lovely time and will go back again, but I am not so sure this would be the place for families with older children (young teens)

Bit of a small site but great as a base to visit cornwall.
Only let down was the long wait we had to check into our bungalow I think ours was litterally the last one to be cleaned (I know someone has to be - I'm not being picky) but we did make the most of the chance to do the shopping at nearby newquay and have a drink in the bar.
after the first 2 nights I complained about the mattress in our bungalow as it was so uncomfy. this was changed when we were out for the day for a much nicer and softer one.
Evening entertainment for the kids was fab and our little girl joined in with everything and even managed to win a few prizes here and there. Amy and Claire who run the entertainment for the kids were fab - well done ladies!!!!!
Beach was fab visited it often not far either to walk with kids, picnic and bodyboards. fab pub too on way back for luish cream teas.
