Description: We purchase food locally and cook fresh in our kitchens each day. We have a popular Sunday Roast each Sunday, as it is freshly cooked roast potatoes, parsnips, carrots, Yorkshire pudding, cauliflower cheese, green vegetables and melt in the mouth meat, plus vegetarian and vegan options, it's usually very busy. We also offer a takeaway Sunday roast, call and collect. Friday night is Burger Night where we serve the Dolphin Gourmet Burgers, that too has become extremely popular, the menus are on our website and we offer online booking. The restaurant itself is a 75 seater restaurant with a nice friendly bar and lots of sofas dotted around the bar. It's been under new ownership since November 2016 and has been receiving rave reviews and sometimes sold out on Sundays with over 160 meals served. The Dolphin is the oldest trading restaurant in the beautiful Cornish town of Newquay and is a traditional yet vibrant venue, with friendly staff and a strong focus on sustainable and ethical practice. All produce is fresh and is locally and responsibly sourced, allowing for an exciting and dynamic food menu that appeals to people of all tastes. The lounge bar provides a relaxing area to enjoy well maintained draught lagers, ales and ciders, a carefully chosen range of wines and spirits. Serving from our Main Menu items such as Tapas, Seafood and Grill as well as our hugely popular Sunday Roasts, where we offer a takeaway roast on Sunday (from 26 November 2016) to meet the overbooked demand. The Dolphin is situated near to the Harbour in the centre of the town, just a minute from the beach and is surrounded by absolutely gorgeous beaches famous for their golden sands and world-class surf conditions on the North Cornwall coast. Adjacent to the restaurant is a pay and display car park whilst street parking is also available within a few minutes walk. Sainsburys also operate a time limited (1.5 hours at the time of writing) car parking facility, it is an automated time register driving in and driving out so allow a few extra minutes to get back to your car and exit their car park.

Dont walk on by, walk on up. This place is a hidden delight!
The food is fresh, generous and amazing.
The real ales are top condition and the twisted cocktail list is wonderful.
We ate the chilli calamari starter & the 'Cornish Mussels' "best Moule I've ever had"
followed by a HUGE plate of scallops wrapped in smoked bacon and the Steak & blue cheese salad.

Portions were so big we had to pass on dessert and opted instead for an espresso martini which was so good we returned the following day for more of the same
HIGHLY recommend this place.

This restaurant was recommended by a local taxi driver and we are so glad he did. The food was amazing. Huge portions mean no one goes hungry. All food is a work of art with the way it is presented. Would defiantly go again if we are in the area.

Four adults and two children went to the Dolphin.
one portion of mussels and soup for the children, pate, soup and two portions of sardines. All the portions were enormous!!! Two pollock fish and chips, 2 chicken one mussels - general consensus - all beautiful but they shouldn't have had a starter because when the main courses arrived everyone was full up on the starter.
I sadly ordered goats cheese tart with salad. It looked lovely, huge soup bowl type of plate with 'floret' lettuce and tomato around the edge. In the centre was a huge (about 6-8 inches across) circular piece of puff pastry with a few cooked red onions and on top was the smallest piece of goats cheese I have ever seen. All this was swamped in balsamic vinegar. I ate the goats cheese (two small pieces on my fork) and left the rest.
The service was not good. When we arrived there were only two people in the restaurant, then a group of ten came in and various groups of four. We waited 30 minutes for our starters and then most people were served before we got our main courses another hour later!

Don't let the looks of the restaurant deter you. The quality of food looks like it belongs in a higher-end venue rather than an intimate restaurant (pub style).

Service was good although small improvements could be made e.g. when served a bottle of wine I would expect it to be poured for me.

Apart from that the experience was very positive. I would definitely return.

We've been holidaying in Newquay for years and pretty much on every visit we have a meal in this restaurant. Lovely selection of fish or meat dishes (I'm not a vegetarian, can't comment on the veggie choices apart from they are on there).
Our most recent visit a couple of days ago, we noticed the place has been given a face lift and is a lot brighter inside, the portions have also seemed to have gotten larger! 10/10
