Owner description: From the local Cornish coast to the dazzling beauty of the Tropical Reef, Newquay Blue Reef aquarium has an exciting world of underwater adventure waiting to be discovered. More than 40 innovative displays vividly bring to life the sights, sounds and smells of the sea, whilst regular feeding displays, rock-pool workshops and informative talks provide a fun and fascinating day out. Visitors can enjoy the closest of undersea encounters with amazing aquatic life including seahorses, giant octopus, pulsating Jellyfish and fierce Piranha. At the aquariums heart is a spectacular coral reef display housed within a 250,000 litre ocean tank - home to exotic tropical species like black tip reef sharks and Omiros the rescued loggerhead turtle. As well as hundreds of brightly-coloured reef fish and a huge Southern Stingray. Enjoy the sheer beauty of the display by taking a journey through its very own underwater tunnel, as well as through a number of viewing portholes, a floor to ceiling window and even enjoy close encounters from the surface - where Omiros often likes to pop up to say hello! Situated on Towan Promenade in the heart of Newquay, Blue Reef Aquarium not only offers a beach on its doorstep but also an amazing experience, whatever the weather!

Just visited this aquarium today as we were looking for something to whilst in Newquay on a miserable windy Thursday (not I dislike weather like that, but it's hardly sunbathing conditions). Picked this place after checking TripAdvisor. Me and my partner did the round in about an hour and thought it was perfectly enjoyable. I keep fish at home so I was keen to read all aboug each example they keep.

Yeah it's not huge but it packs a lot in to a small building - sharks, cayman, turtles, jellyfish, stonefish - I could go on! Has some examples of marine fish and I was a little surprised to see they even had some Nautili on display. Managed to catch a feeding as well and learned a bit about some of the bigger inhabitants too.

Cost just shy of twenty pounds for the pair of us which I agree is a little steep, but keeping fish isn't cheap!

Would recommend.

We had a fantastic time at the aquarium. Although we have never been before, it was just breath taking some of the animals that they have there. We really enjoyed our visit!

Can't recommend this enough, fulfilled a dream of mine to be close to a shark, staff are all very knowledgeable and passionate about the animals in their care. Encourage questions and offer information of initiatives that are in place world wide for protection of certain species!

This was just an amazing day out, can't stop talking about it!!!

Great way to spend a morning. So many tanks, so many different types of marine life, all of them easily viewed.

Big tanks as well, so there were plenty of fish/creatures to see.

I liked the "nursery" area with the baby seahorses, really different. And the neon jellyfish. And the walkway under the big tank of sharks, etc.

Well, Caiman's actually, but that doesn't stand out as well. At the time of our visit they had two small Caiman's on loan from London Zoo. Stunning to watch up close.
