At £45 for the room and £5 for secure car park, we thought we had good value in this somewhat dated hotel.
There is evidence of some cosmetic refurbishment. The location is good, right on the sea front. The rooms facing the sea are probably nicer but more expensive.
Our room was perfectly adequate if dated, the new windows are good protection from street noise.
The breakfast is poor with a wierd system of ordering at the bar from a small menu- a buffet system would be much more practical and generous.

Me and the girly decided to have a belated valentines wknd away and thought of Newquay as we both hadnt been there for over 10 years.
The great weston was an awesome choice. From the moment we walked in the front door service was polite and friendly i had a car parking space right outside the front with a cctv cam pointing at it which was a big piece of mind as my car cost loads of money! lol staff were polite and friendly plus i got my end way loads! bedroom was good and clean with a telly and freeview etc i would stay here again next time i visit newquay for sure A+ and all for a good price, cost me for 2 nights inc parking £60

Just returned from a long weekend away at the Great Western. The room and views were fantastic and the staff could not do enough to make our stay great.
We have been to Newquay on holiday for the last 26 years and never been inside this hotel but that has now changed and we will pass on this gem to all our friends.
Excellent service thanks very much!

Stayed for 3 nights with my Husband & Son age 9.
I booked over the phone, Lucy who I spoke to was very helpful & made booking very easy. We had room 112 which is a family room, it is not one of the refurbished rooms but it was spotless & cleaned every day plus fresh towels. The panoramic views were beautiful, would request that room again.
We were there when there was the bad storms, but still had a great time.
All the staff are very nice & they certainly made our stay very enjoyable. Kristy on the bar is good fun & the young lady (Lisa ?) on reception went out of her way to help me sort out surfing lessons.
While there my Son went surfing with the Reef Surfing centre, literaly just under the hotel. The 6 hour journey to Newquay was worth it just to see how much fun he had, would highly recommend this, as the lesson was brilliant.
All in all had a really good time & we would happily go back to this hotel.

Just returned from a five night stay at the Great Western. Booking was made by telephone and was very efficient. Also booked parking at £5 per day.

I had paid in full, so booking was very quick and efficient. We had arrived earlier in the day, but we were able to park our car in the hotel car park prior to checking in at 2.30 pm, which was very convenient and gave us time to explore Newquay. Checking in was very quick and efficient and our room was very clean. Had a problem during the night with the bathroom and spoke to Reception the next morning. We were immediately moved to another room, which was in a lovely area, overlooking the sea and beautiful views. Both reception and service staff could not have been more helpful. All staff were very approachable and friendly. Room was cleaned every day to a very high standard. Free WiFi on the ground floor and in some rooms. Very convenient for restaurants, beaches, bars. Lots of choice for eating.

Could not fault anything.

Had a lovely time and would definitely return.

It was a pleasant mid-October morning, so my husband and I thought we'd have a nice cup of cappuccino al fresco with a fabulous view, but oh no - the seat was wet, the table was sticky with scattered choc bits, the cappuccino was tepid (nearly cold). The staff''s reaction on reporting these three things was laughter and what appeared an insincere apology .We went to reception and asked to see the manager. We told her about the cappuccino, and suggested to her that tables and chairs should be checked before accepting customers. 'Oh, we'll be closing the outside section soon - winter's coming.' She then claimed that the tables had indeed been cleaned the previous day - but then refused to accompany us so we could show her where we'd been sitting. She finished by giving us a sadly misinformed and ignorant lecture on how cappuccino is not meant to be hot and the cups shouldn't be warmed. This was hardly our first time to have cappuccino, but it was the first time to hear such nonsense about authentic cappuccino being lukewarm.
It seems extremely probable that the manager is trying her best to be a female Basil Fawlty - although even he might find it hard to be as rude and provide such poor service.

Had to wait quite some time for the receptionist to finish her phone call to a friend (couldn't even get into the car park as it was locked). She eventually dealt with us with bad grace, at first denying that we'd booked a parking space - then she checked the records and admitted that we had. Room was okay but bed very uncomfortable due to very cheap, flat pillow (only had one each). Quite noisy outside during the early hours of the morning, but would probably be worse on a weekend.
