“Very surprised after choosing to eat here by chance”
Reviewed February 26, 2013 via mobile

My fiancé and I visit Newquay every year and after trying most of the restaurants available in Newquay we decided to try The Griffin. It smelt very nice from outside and is directly opposite a wetherspoons pub pretty much. We weren't expecting anything special a the pub itself looked a little dates. However we sat in the restaurant and ordered from the menu which was concise but with a good selection. When our food arrived we were very surprised at the amount and the quality. I had chicken fajitas and my partner had a steak. Both meals were really well cooked and presented nicely. The food was really good. It was cooked perfectly and tasted excellent. I was very surprised to find that it was so nice in here so don't let the outside put you off.

“Very Average”
Reviewed February 24, 2013

Went here for dinner with the family as looking for somewhere to suit a number of tastes. Very basic restaurant with very very average food. Ordered a dish with saute potatoes and it came with chips - just what I didn't want having had chips all week.. Veggies looked nice but had no seasoning at all and tasted awful. Couple of guests had roast of the day (Turkey) and it was bland and tough. no doubt from having sat around for a few days.

Despite it being a cheapish meal I would not go back for the reasons above and nor would I recommend it either.

“Good pub carvery”
Reviewed February 5, 2013

Have eaten here a fair few times - good value, big portions. We especially like their Carvery on Sun & Thurs. Great value for money. Friendly family pub... gets quite busy with locals but very welcoming to holiday makers... normally eat in bar area not restaurant. Would certainly go again!

Reviewed January 20, 2013

Popped in here for a meal as we had already eaten the day before at witherspoons and didnt want to go there again, we wanted a change
dining room was a little dated decor wise -but the waitress was lovely and the tables spaced nicely -food was really nice BIG portions ,and not overly priced -would def visit again when we return to newquay.
