We arrived 30 Oct 2012, the room was very spacious and clean but smelt damp and the bathroom had no radiator, so a tad chilly. Arrived for dinner and are name was not on the list, my daughters
spag bol was very dry so she left it and the lamb dish was also very dry. However the breakfast was lovely. Most of the staff were friendly and helpful, the swimming pool was clean and their were
lots of things for children. The view of the beach was amazing!

Room Tip: A room at the front has the lovely sea view

We stayed at the Esplanade for four nights from 29th October 2012 - 2nd November 2012. I cannot fault this hotel all the staff are warm and friendly. Our room was a good size, clean and tidy with lots of storage space, our room was cleaned every day. Meals were good, especially our evening meal, the menu had alot of choice. As it was half term the hotel had put on lots of activities for children. My son enjoyed the swimming pool. The views from the hotel of the beach are amazing.

The room was nice but smelled damp all weekend and the bed was a bit hard, couldn't get rid of the smell by opening the window. However, that was probably the only bad thing we had to say about the weekend.
For the rest, the staff were very polite and helpful, meals were lovely including the childrens menu we used for our one year old.
The hotel guide suggests the town centre is 15 minutes walk, which is accurate but be prepared for some hills! Lovely walk though.
Room was clean and tidy with tea and coffee facilities provided. Plenty of room in a family sized room and lots of things to do for the kids. The hotel puts on a lot of activities which was a shame ours was a little too young to enjoy but would definitely go again when he is a bit older.
Didn't get round to using the spa or swimming pool as was a short stay and we ran out of time.
Our room view faced the children's play area, nothing to write home about but perfectly acceptable. Would definitely consider paying a bit extra next time for a sea view room as the views from the dining room at the front of the hotel were fantastic, worth it if you are spending a bit of time in the room like we did when the baby was napping!

I feel I have to post a review for this shambolic hotel following my 2nd bad experience of their customer service. Myself and my husband stayed at the Esplanade for a function last autumn. Having left my friends and husband in the bar, at 6pm I went to our room to get changed for the dinner. The window was open and I noticed a loud generator-type noise emanating from the utility area 2 floors below where a door was open. I closed the window and the noise was still loud. Knowing we were going to have a late night, and not wanting to be awoken by the noise early on the Sunday morning, I went down to reception to point out the noise and told them it would be a problem if the noise started early in the morning. They said it would not start early so we stayed put in the room. Yes - you guessed it - I was awoken by the noise before 7 am in the morning and could not get back to sleep. It spoilt the whole weekend for me. I now notice someone else pointed this out in a review last Aug/Sept but the hotel obviously ignored their customer. When I got upset with the reception staff in the morning because I had warned them the night before and they could have changed our room, the manager gave us a voucher for a free 3 course set menu dinner. Now to the 2nd episode. My husband and I telephoned the hotel this Thursday to book to have the dinner the following day. We duly arrived (very hungry) for our dinner to be asked if we were with the Church Party? No, we weren't. The restaurant was closed for a private function so we could not eat. The receptionist could see her colleague had put us in the book for dinner - however then explained that her colleague was in training. Is that our problem? Who is training these people? So that is the 2nd weekend the Esplanade has wrecked for us. We had made a special trip to Newquay and were let down and went home to reheated leftovers instead. We asked for the value of the voucher in cash, which was forthcoming, as we didn't trust them enough to visit a 3rd time. You have a lovely location Esplanade - sort yourselves out!

Room Tip: Stay away from above the kitchen area at the rear due to excessive noise.

From the moment we walked into reception, happiness ensued. The receptionists, 3 of them, were extremely helpful (2 of them were in training) and couldn't do enough for us. Explanations were given for our stay and the facilities available. We were very lucky as the hotel had allowed us to take our dogs, 2 westies, and we were given a room which led out to a grassy area, so we didn't have to travel far for their needs. The dogs were allowed everywhere except the dining room and bar, although there was an outside bar area in which they were allowed. The views, as we overlooked Fistral Beach, were stunning. The food was excellent and was changed if we did not like what was on offer. The breakfast was buffet style, but this was replenished regularly with hot items. We were there with another 160 people for a weekend break and there was not one word of complaint, that I heard. The group consisted of ages from babies to people in their 90's and all were appreciative of the effort made by the staff for everyone's comfort. I cannot praise the hotel staff enough.

Room Tip: You have to ask if you want to take a dog and this is at the management's discretion as only a f...

I won this 2 night stay via a Facebook competition and upgraded to a room with a balcony which was just lovely. What a time laying in bed listening to the waves, we ate in the restaurant both nights and was very pleased with the food

Realy good value for your money. Was booked as a fistral spa break so had the use of facilities in the Bay hotel as well. Pool, sauna and Jaccusi were nice in the esplanade hotel (although the chlorine was a little strong) but we walked the 100m distance too the Bay hotel which has a gorgeous pool and spa facilities. Rooms were to a nice standard but would recomend a sea view room as we started off in one of the rooms around the back and found the kitchen extractor fan rather noisy (we are fairly light sleepers). The staff were great and moved us into a front facing room at 1am in the morning. Food was lovely, we ate in the restaurant all 3 nights of our stay and enjoyed all our meals.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms have a lovely view of fistral beach and i think are quieter.
