I visited Braefel Steak Pub last week. I had been there the year previous and found it to be nice enough. This time however, although claiming its a Steak Pub or Steak House they infact only sold 1 steak and that was a Rump. After travelling for about 20 mins we just decided to leave and find somewhere else as I wanted steak. We ended up in Butchers Bistro in Newquay.

We last visited Breafel in 2003 and it was a terrible experience,so ten years later we gave it a second chance thinking that with a superb location somebody must have knocked it into shape, but no ,staggeringly it was even worse,we went at 8pm on a Thursday night and there were 3 cars in the carpark ominous I thought, and upon entering the restaurant was confronted by a menu that wouldn't have looked out of place in a greasy spoon,i ordered a rump steak and it arrived 15 mins later ,it was frying steak that had been battered flat so it would fill the plate , a truly awful meal costing £12.95 ,in over thirty years of eating out this place with its café ambience is the worst meal ive ever had ,maybe another ten years will pass before the next visit,it does look a good place externally but enter at your own risk....

... the menu has been expanded. This is at the expense of the wider selection of steak cuts. Whilst this is not necessarily a bad thing, it does mean that some of the older reviews, including mine, are not as pertinent as they were. I did still partake of the special steak dinner offer ( for two) that was on the menu and it was as good as ever.

I think that the new menu probably means, that for non steak lovers, it's a whole new world at the Brafel and they would welcome the changes. Simple, well prepared fare and pleasant staff still on site. Will return.

We stopped here last night for a meal on the final night of our holiday and it was as good as we remembered it from last year.

Lovely staff, excellent food and reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend it.
