The house and gardens is only small in comparison to other national trust properties in the area, but it is still worth a visit as it is a very pretty house.

what a lovely house with some fine ole English history. today was "open" day where they opened many of the cabinets and furniture inside the house so people could see what was inside. this is not something they do all the time apparently. We were going to miss the talk on one of the pieces but because there had been confusion on the timing, one of the National Trust volunteers opened the cabinet for us and showed us the hidden and secret doors. we only missed hearing the love letters read which were found in one of the secret doors. We also did a brass rubbing for fun. maybe that is more for kids but we enjoyed doing one.

Parts of the house are very interesting but very little of the furniture is original to the house. If you ignore this and look at the house and furniture for what it is, there is quite a lot to see.
The garden is not very big but it is very pleasant in enjoyable to walk around.
The restaurant has a wide variety of food choices and plenty of seating space - almost disproportionate to the size of the house and gardens.

As NT members we visited Trerice while in the area. Perhaps we were spoilt by having previously visited Lanhydrock, but we didn't warm to this house as much. It has been altered considerably over time, which makes it difficult to imagine it as it would have been. The rooms are furnished and there are several pieces of interesting art to admire. I particularly enjoyed the embroidery/tapestry, with samples made by volunteers.

The gardens are pretty in the spring, with an orchard, a kitchen garden and some lawned areas with flower borders to explore. The cafe is huge, with additional setting outside. It's hard to imagine there being enough visitors to fill all those seats! There's also a gift shop and plant stall.

The volunteers were present in most rooms, and much as we appreciate them giving up their time, it would have been nice if more of them engaged with visitors (or gave out signals that they were happy to). Some seemed more like wardens than guides, which is a shame as they could really enhance the visitor experience beyond the printed guide we were given at the start of our tour, and which came to an abrupt end before we'd seen the last rooms.

It's definitely worth a visit if you're NT members and in the area.
