“Deserves 6 Stars”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012 via mobile

Anyone that visited Newquay a few years ago will probably have seen the building by the side of the boating lake with the Noddy childrens ride outside. If you visited the building you would be in an ordinary cafe with cheap seating, furnishings, and standard fare for any coffee bar.
Well not any more (although Noddy is still there), the current owners had the foresight to see the potential of the setting of this building, and the talent to transform it into the Lakeside Restuarant (although it is still titled cafe).
OK you will still get coffee etc, in the mornings, but the speciality of the Lakeside is its dining and the quality and quantity of food, with speciality daily selections.
So on entering Lakeside, you immediately recognise the quality of the fittings. The crockery is modern and high quality, the tables are solid wood (Beech or similar) all with a vase of fresh daily flowers, a jug of iced water is prepared and poured ready for pre booked diners. A log burning stove is surrounded by a "lounge" area with comfortable leather settees, and the whole of the interior feels welcoming. This is a fully licenced restuarant, which has attached an ice cream kiosk with outside seating for those warm days to sit by thee boating lake.
So to the food: We have visited many times since discovering the Lakeside transformation, as a family of 3 with an 8 year old.
Never have we eaten so well with such an abundance of good food, even the simple Jacket Potato is huge, with masses of filling, accompanied by quality mixed salad and dressing, with homemade coleslaw. Many of the dressings and sauces are home made and better than you have ever tasted before. The staff are efficient, polite, effective and make a change to so many other establishments.
There are speciality dishes both at lunchtime and evenings in addition to a menu which reflects the talents of the Chef.
Children are well catered for, again with a good choice and more than enough to fill hungry mouths.
Every thing is served hot and well presented, and by the time side dishes, sauces, dressings are on the table there is not much room for anything else.
Now the only downside of the Lakeside:- It has become so popular that you will more than likely need to book in advance to get a table for evening dining and lunch times for your prefferred times.
Many parties are now booking the Lakeside for special occassions, and the staff again ensure that any theme is suitably presented with table decorations
As I said previously, we have visited many times when we are in Newquay, and have NEVER found anywhere as good to eat out. We come from Lancashire, and our next visit to Newquay is at Christmas, and yes we have booked Lakeside for three of our days. I hope all visitors recognise the effort and quality that the owners have invested in wishing to provide the ultimate quality for the Lakeside.

“Duck-side delight for all the family with delightful staff and a really thoughtful menu.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 2, 2012 via mobile

Well worth a visit if you're searching for something a little bit special. Family-run Lakeside is an absolute delight which looks like a standard cafe at the side of the duck pond in the middle of Newquay but is sophisticated and surprising when you get inside. Staff here go that extra mile to really make sure you have a great visit. Nothing is too much trouble and they're child-friendly with booster seats, high chairs, duck-food on sale by the bag-full and a wood burner for those chilly days. Comfy arm chairs - if your nipping in for their famous hot chocolate or proper coffee options, but full table service if your looking for something from that luscious local menu. Spoilt rotten. Can really recommend their cream teas. But everything we've tried from the specials board has been spectacular so far - And our lot (from teenagers to toddlers) are a tough crowd to please!!

“gorgeous food!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 24, 2012

we stopped here after a recommendation by a friend and im glad we took their advice. The cafe is a lovely setting next to the boating lake & we stopped for a lazy lunch. Sat outside with a glass of wine & Cider, we both had the Welsh Rarebit which was absolutely gorgeous & a side salad & fries to share. Definitely will paying this place a visit again whether it be for lunch or dinner and would recommend 100%
