“Always a great day out.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 23, 2013

We visited for the Santa Special for the second year running with our near 5 year old son. As always at Lappa Valley we received a warm welcome from all the staff. The Santa's grotto was well done, Santa was excellent and my son received a decent present. Mulled wine and mince pies for Mum and Dad included in the price we think all very good value. The organisation was good and had the weather been poor we wouldn't have had to wait too long to see Santa at our allotted time. We were again lucky with the weather and Lappa Valley isn't great on a a wet day' but with the building of 2 new play carriages and the reasonably priced cafe they are trying hard to make it better and we understand more wet weather attractions are to come in the future. We thoroughly recommend it and the one price covers all make it a reasonably priced day out.

“Magical Christmas experience.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 23, 2013 via mobile

We took my four year old son to visit father Christmas and we were bowled over by the friendliness of the staff, fantasic grotto and free mince pie and mulled wine with each £10 ticket!! It was nothing like the shopping mall Santa grottos. We were given almost 10 minutes with Santa and even sang a song with him! The gift was worth almost the ticket price. We were then able to ride the train as many times as we liked, complete the maze and play in the adventure playground. I wonder how they make a profit! Best value Christmas experience ever. We'll be back in the summer.

“The santa experience!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 22, 2013

We visited today Dec 22nd and were extremely disappointed in the santa experience. Having read the description we were expecting a magical winter wonderland setting. There was absolutely no atmosphere at Benny Halt Station with only a sparsely stocked shop. The train was described as providing an atmospheric ride when in fact there was one string of led lights across the top. On arrival we were expecting a christmas atmosphere with music playing of which there was neither. We wondered into the new indoor play area which again was sparsely furnished and didnt have any doors so was absolutely freezing. We wondered aimlessly around for half an hour waiting to go into the christmas grotto. Again we were expecting the grotto to be in a lovely cabin, when in fact it was at the back of the shop!! Father Christmas was very nice and looked very good but the whole experience was certainly not worth 70 pound for the family. Im afraid we wont be returning.

“Great visit. Disabled accessible trains”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 20, 2013

I visited the railway yesterday with two disabled people that I support, one of whom uses a wheelchair. The train had been pre booked and there are ramps which are pulled from under the carriage to enable a wheelchair to be pushed onto the carriage.
The staff were very friendly and helpful, right from the start.
We went on the 'Santa Express' as it was a Christmas special event. The trip on the train was lovely, travelling through woodlands. We saw a squirrel and a few pheasant.
There was a little shop at either end of trip, a lovely café and spotless toilets. Also play equipment for the younger children and a mini railway too.
I must say this would not be suitable for LARGE electric wheelchairs as the carriages were not massive and were quite low in height.
A lovely visit, enjoyed by all. Many thanks to everyone and to Santa and Elfy. Ho Ho Ho,

“Fantastic for a day or longer”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 6, 2013

We first visited in April this year for a day and my youngest children loved it. There was not so much to keep older teens occupied although they did enjoy the crazy golf and boating lake.
Having seen that Lappa Valley Railway has a holiday flat above the station office we decided to return and stay for the October half term week with our two youngest children.

We took advantage of being able to use all the facilities and travelled on the steam train 3 times during the week and the kids loved riding on the other trains, boating, the indoor and outdoor play areas and developed a passion for crazy golf! If it's been wet before you visit wear sturdy footwear so you can experience the woodland walk, a ten minute stroll back from the Newlyn branch line. The cafe serves reasonably priced lunches and snacks which is particularly useful on days when picnics are rained off. Having spent a full day there on the first day of our stay we thought we'd visit for half a day on the other occasions but once in the valley the kids didn't want to leave!

The holiday flat is lovely. Much bigger than we expected from the photos, it's beautifully and comfortably furnished with an attention to detail and even includes boxes of toys under the twin beds which went down very well with my young ones. It's ideally located for accessing other places in Cornwall. we visited Land's End, Newquay and the Eden Project while there.

As we drove away we all said we want to return soon and over a month later we still feel the same.
