LVR is a great way to spend a few hours or even a full day if you want to do and see absolutely everything there.
Upon arrival you are greeted with Benny Halt station where you get your tickets and can pick up some refreshments. If the train isn't due for a few minutes (they leave every 30 minutes) then the children can play on the playground by the station house.
The Benny Halt train takes you at a sedate pace through the valley to reveal the main LVR compound. Here you find a crazy golf course, kayaking lake, cafe, 2nd station house with refreshments and gifts, mini railway that loops up to the large play area and back, electric cars (you need tokens) and plenty of space just to sit and relax.
There is another train that heads up a hill to a 'family play field'. There is a nature trail leading back down to the main area if you don't want to take the return journey.
The food and refreshments on site are of reasonable price or you can take your own picnic which seemed to be a popular option.
All-in-all, it makes for a very relaxing visit and would suit younger children (3-10) rather than those of secondary school age (say 11 and up).

I am giving this place 5 stars because my 3 1/2 year old son loved it. He loved it so much he wanted to go back and, with free re-entry for a week after your initial purchase, that was a bargain.

Now, I have to temper my enthusiasm by saying that this isn't a place to visit if you don't have kids - and I reckon 10 or 11 must be an upper age limit. But if you have kids from about 3 up to 10/11, its perfect. There's plenty to do -- 3 trains (all scale models, don't be expecting anything bigger), a play area, crazy golf, canoeing, woodland walks, an outdoor picnic/play area.

Yes, its a bit quaint and perhaps a little old-fashioned and gentle, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with that -- in fact it was rather refreshing. Its certainly not tacky or cheap feeling. We stayed for about 5-6 hours on each visit (I have to say that the weather helped significantly as there's little indoor shelter)

Finally, I have to say that the staff to a person were all friendly, cheerful, and helpful, and this added greatly to the day.

This is the 3rd occasion we have visited with our now 3 1/2 year old son. With him being obsessed with all things trains we first went when he was aged two and found it to be a safe well run attraction which we all thoroughly enjoyed. This year was better still as he was able to do more and aside from riding on three different trains we enjoyed the canadian canoes, the superb play area which suits all ages and the play area at the picnic area too. The only thing we haven't tackled is the mini golf. Next time!
The staff without exception are helpful and cheerful and the food sold at the cafe is realistically priced and good quality.
The cost of the day for the three of us was about £24 and we did use the cafe, but if you wish to take you own refreshments there is nothing more to pay for the whole day. We also took advantage of a free return within seven days so £12 a day is a bargain!
It is largely outdoor attraction so it's worth bearing that in mind if the weather is poor and wrap up accordingly.
We've only been home a day and our son is already badgering us to go again!
We will definately be back again this year.

A great fun place if you like trains and riding on lots of different types. Something for all the family to do and enjoy and lots of places to picnic as well. Time just ran out on us so we will have to go back again this year.

Reading some of the recent reviews, we visited Lappa Valley unsure of what we would get for our money. We had a fantastic day with loads to do for all ages in a totally safe and secure environment that's allows little ones some freedom to explore without causing heart failure for parents.

There is plenty to do following a great train journey to get to the middle of Lappa Valley. Reading previous reviews that complained there was nothing to do, I think this may be a reflection of the reviewer rather than Lappa Valley, there is plenty to fill a day if you put some thought into it.

Agree that this is a definite dry weather attraction, if it rains there really isn't anywhere to hide, but if the sun is out this is a winner if you have kids.
