“Great food, terrible service.”
Reviewed August 12, 2013

The Fort Inn has beautiful scenic views of the Newquay coast which explains why it is so busy, but a lovely place.

Upon arrival, we were not presented with a menu or told where to get them as there weren't any on the table. After a wait, we managed to get a staff member's attention who told us where we could get them. We went to where they had said to discover that there wasn't any so we had to ask another table if we could borrow their menu.

On first entrance, it looks a beautiful place but when you look closer, little things made the place looked a bit more uncared for. There was a display cabinet which was turning and fully lit but it was completely empty, the paintwork was chipped and several photo frames were empty or still had the original paper inside them which just says the size of the frame. Very unprofessional.

Despite there only being five people in front of us in the queue, it took 25 minutes just to order the food. The male member of staff did not appear to know what he was doing and nobody was willing to help him.

After waiting all that time, we were told that we couldn't order drinks at same time so we then had to queue for a further ten minutes at the bar to order drinks. This meant that in total, we queued for 35 minutes just to order two meals and two drinks - disgusting.

We were told that there was a 45 minute wait for food so were pleasantly surprised when it arrived in 30 minutes which we definitely did not expect given our ordering experience. The food was high quality, the portion size was huge and the kitchen granted my request of having no dressing on my salad.

I was very satisfied with the meal and the value, but very dissatisfied with the poor customer service that we received as most staff didn't seem to know what we were doing, nobody asked how our meals were, we were not asked if we wanted any sauces or told where we could get them from (also nobody came past us during the meal for us to ask) and during the 20 minutes we sat having a drink after we'd finished eating, nobody came to clear the table.

“What a fantastic looking place”
Reviewed August 12, 2013

Stopped here for a drink, we would have had food but it was just to busy with a long que for the restaurant. We had a nice dink there outside on the terrace overlooking the coast & beach. Later on we then ordered bread & olives which were very nice & priced reasonable. A great place to eat in less busy times..

“Freat Fish”
Reviewed August 11, 2013

In Newquay you would expect great fish but its harder to find than you think in this pub we had to great meals of fresh dressed crab and mackerel. Would recommend this for the food alone but the view and staff are also great.

“Didn't stop”
Reviewed August 7, 2013

We walked into this restaurant and turned straight around and walked out, they had actually seated people in the corridor as you walked in, the place was heaving with noisy families all shouting at each other and children running around. We bought fish and chips from the nearby chip shop and enjoyed a peaceful evening instead.
