Big let down! Menu selection was poor, food fine but very overpriced and the service was unforgiveable - 6 different servers dealt with us, only 2 who appeared to know how to do their job: we were given wrong starters, our wine was dumped on out table, unopened and our plates etc left on our table for 15 mins after we had finished eating before been cleared away, but not before we had already started their job for them. Very sorry we wasted one of our evenings here and will certainly not be returning.

Ok, so we ended up paying fifty quid for two steaks, a chicken burger, five glasses of wine and three desserts. Not bad, you might think. You'd be wrong. This was a meal in a "nice" place to cap off a good holiday. We ordered some aperitifs - the waiter insisted on taking the food order at the same time. Then the food came out in a matter of minutes - the component parts were obviously waiting on a hot plate somewhere - nothing cooked to order here. Two medium rare steaks which were actually well done and very gristly and one chicken burger without the promised "shoestring fries" but with a tiny crumbling soggy bun in place of the promised ciabatta. Chased the drinks, they then arrived. They weren't what we'd asked for. Chased the fries. Got the right drinks. Chased the fries again. Finished our meals. Still no fries (they never appeared). I won't even go into the "peppercorn sauce", although the gelatinous skin on top was a nice touch. Called the manager over - he was very young but handled the situation ok - took the drinks and the chicken off the bill and offered complementary desserts. Had to ask another waiter to remove the bacon rind which was just left on a side plate - maybe they thought we wanted to enjoy it with our strawberries and cream. Eventually bill arrived, with the desserts on and with the extra bacon and cheese from the chicken. Got the manager again - corrected the bill. So bad. Just don't kid yourself it'll be ok. Grand location, but they can't afford to run a restaurant that can charge these prices. Co-diner accurately described it as a mix of old-fashioned hotel and leisure centre caff. Manager did ok and they have one waiter (male, older, very cheerful) who clearly cares about his guests and does a good job. But just no. Sorry.

We didn't stay at the hotel, but I booked four of us in for afternoon tea to celebrate my mum's birthday.
We were seated in a bay window booth with lovely views down to the rocks and out to sea.
The staff were all friendly and helpful and we were served promptly.
The scones and tea were very nice but some of the cakes and the variety of sandwiches were disappointing.
Great location, nice hotel, helpful staff but the afternoon tea was poor value for money.
