It's been a while since we had lunch here but will definitely return. Good service and lovely sandwiches and tea.The decor is very pleasant and relaxing in the lunch restaurant. A great place for a treat.

Room Tip: Only had lunch there.

Wasn't sure what to expect when I booked this hotel but from our arrival everything was perfect. In fact, even before our arrival as owing to traffic we rung ahead to say we were running late and that could we leave our car in the car-park while we dashed off to a restaurant reservation. Not only was this no problem, the receptionist pre-filled out parking permit over the phone and was waiting for us with it when we arrived in a rush! Great service & initiative. The hotel is perched on the cliffs overlooking the sea and we had a stunning took with a door that opened on to a terrace which looked directly out to sea. The room was perfectly furnished, spotlessly clean, fantastic large bed, great linen, and the bathroom was fantastic with a huge bath, separate walk-in shower and complimentary toiletries. All the normal room facilities were evident. The interior of the hotel is very impressive and we spent the evening in the lovely Silks Bar. Without exception the staff were wonderful and the breakfast the following morning was perfect. If I had one minor complaint it was that we bought two rather expensive bottles of champagne in the bar and, struggling to carry them up to our room, we asked for some help from a waiter but was told he'd have to charge us to do it. Not really the appropriate answer having spent £120 on champagne! But this aside, a magnificent stay.

Room Tip: Try to get a room overlooking the sea.

Our booking receipt didn't state the check-in time and therefore the day before we arrived I checked the hotel's website and couldn't find it there. We arrived at 2:30pm and there was no record of our booking. We had paid in full and had a booking reference number and fortunately we were staying mid-week and there were still vacancies.

The check-in time is 3:30pm; so we waited in the foyer for about 50 minutes before the room was ready. During check in I was asked whether I wanted a morning paper, Yes was my answer, I wasn't told it cost 1 pound 20p, so now you know.

We stayed in a superior double room with sea view (#313). The view is great. Although the outside of the building looks somewhat decayed the rooms are newly renovated, comfortable and clean. There are tea/coffee making facilities and a small refrigerator.

There is NO WiFi reception on floor 3; this was a great inconvenience to us because we do our trip/restaurant/etc. planning using the internet, as we all do. When I brought this problem to the attention of one of the staff members at the front desk she suggested I log on in the foyer and go back to the room with the connection and it would travel with me, it did, until floor 2. After reporting this later in the day I was assured that she would bring this to the attention of the electrician. Although the staff were friendly and helpful overall, I think the best description of their attitude when I brought the WiFi problem to their attention(s), was "testy". Additionally,
the connection in the foyer drops out continuously.

Parking is available in the hotel's grounds.

The town centre is a walk (shortish) from the hotel down a rather steep hill.

The hotel has an "old world" feel about it and a large part of the business are wedding receptions and therefore staying on weekends may be noisy.

Breakfast is a buffet, good, eggs cooked to order.

Probably wouldn't stay there again- I have a small tolerance for businesses that advertise something (i.e,, WiFi connection in rooms) and doesn't deliver it.

Dear Nigelbalaam,

Thank you for constructive comments about The Atlantic Hotel, Newquay. Firstly may I apologise for the unusual confusion you experienced on check in, however I am happy that we swiftly managed to sort this out for you. Our check in time of 3.30pm is stated within the terms and conditions on all of our confirmations sent out from both ourselves and online travel agencies, such as Bookings.com/laterooms etc. Thanks to your comments we are now also having this uploaded onto our website.

We're really pleased to hear that you enjoyed everything our newly refurbished rooms had to offer. The Atlantic hotel is over 120 years old and is part of Newquay and Cornwall's heritage. Refurbishment and modernisation is something that is constantly taking place throughout each year and maintaining and improving the site is something that that we take very seriously. We try and keep as many parts of the building original and the upkeep of the exterior is constantly underway due to the exposed location of the building.

Sorry to hear that you struggled with WIFI during your visit. The WIFI is usually sufficient, however, we are currently updating all of our routers and having a brand new WIFI system installed which will be much faster and should not encounter these problems again. I hope that this will go someway to enticing you back to The Atlantic Hotel in the future.

Thanks again for your comments and taking the time to post on Trip Advisor.

Kind regards,
The Atlantic Team.

Have not been to this Hotel for a few years & booked 2night summer break for 28/29 June.
So let me start with the only problem you can not book this special on line so I T/p @ 16.30 she had not had time to speak to her manager& reception though all superior rooms had been booked,I advised not according to web so she agreed to speak to her manager &ring back but by 19.30 I had had no contact so I rang again only to be told she had not spoken to her manager but agreed to do so immediately & duly rang back in a minute & we confirmed booking on 27/6. We arrived the next morning & from then on it was fabulous, we paid for an extra breakfast & had a very warm welcome from Sue restaurant manager & Majec the chef & had a very relaxed breakfast @ a sea view table & although buffet style we were offered full waitress service which we declined but what a real pleasure to start our break especial real china tea pots. Our room 202 was shear luxury again double sea view generous size beautiful bath room with massive bath sheets & dressing gowns plus all the shampoo & gels you could wish for .Room also had a safe, fridge & ample tea, coffee, milk & hot choc..Spent the afternoon on very comfortable loungers by outdoor pool.
Evening was spent in Silks where 2 course meal was included we both opted for sole which was cooked to perfection & garnished with mussels so thanks to chef Aaron who came & asked re our meal &shared a few cooking tips
Bed gave a perfect nights sleep until woken by noisy sea gull.2nd day wasjust as good & fullmarks to our very pregnant waitress in Silks she was very friendly as was( I think his name was) Martin.Special thanks to Abbey who came out of reception to let us into indoor pool because we didn't have our glasses with us to read security numbers. This is a real luxury hotel & therefore not cheap but worth it.

Room Tip: Superior balcony was ours Room 202

Bought my husband away for a mid week break for his birthday as he loves Newquay. Been several times before but this was our first time at the Atlantic as had been recommended by friends. Very clean and welcoming and impressed with the room sizes and the comfy soft bed! Great views and close to other amenities. Had a light lunch with champagne in Silks which was simple and tasty. Friendly staff and made use of the pool and bar.
