Reviewed August 28, 2013

Stayed here for a few days in august 2013, and had a fab time. hotel itself was very clean, tidy and organised. Staff were really helpful, friendly and efficient, fantastic people skills with ALL age groups. had a lovely sea view room, very clean and tidy upon arrival. fabulous facilities, spent most of the holiday in the pool with the kids! food was quick to the table and delicious, lots of choice for breakfast, also highly recommend dinner in the mexican restaurant, amazing food and fab staff! will definitely be staying here again!!

What a lovely and spacious hotel. Yes,it needs some updating ,and the rooms are far from plush, but its very clean, quiet, and looks over the sea.
The breakfast is edible, but far from exciting.
Very nice pool, steam, spa and even a gym,if you're a fitness freak like me.
Everything is walking distance, and there's even a tesco metro right opposite ,that's open from 7am-11pm.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back with a sea view.

We have just returned from a weekend at the Hotel Victoria in Newquay and we had a very nice time there. Efficient book-in by reception and all the staff we met during our stay were very pleasant. The hotel itself is an 'elegant old lady', typically Victorian and in an excellent position. She's a bit frayed round the edges in places but generally in pretty good nick. There is a nightclub attached so we asked for a quiet room. There was no sound from the nightclub itself although (as you must expect in Newquay) there are young people out and about all night long. We were given a quieter room as we requested. Our room was clean and tidy. We made use of the indoor pool and Jacuzzi. Breakfast was adequate and the waiter asked if we wanted 'extra anything'. We would stay here again. It's 3 star " you get what it says on the can".

I stayed there from the 12 to the 16 of August. I was almost sure I did book our 2 rooms until the 17 but I could not check so we decided to go back to London one day earlier missing the only sunny day.Well I was rather right, 2 emails of confirmation with correct days.
Breakfast must be review, Buffet and service consistency not existing. Last day was a Friday I asked for hot chocolate, first I was told they did not have, despite we had it the previous 3 mornings, and after 5 minutes I was told that they had it but at £1 charge each, neither we paid previously.
After 10 minutes trying to order just a full English without Beans and 2 English teas I had 3 full English and no tea. I do understand I have an accent but I work in hospitality and living in the country since 7 years and an Ielts result (English exam for university admission) of 7.5 my English is good!!!!!!
You should work on staff manning and service.
Swimming pool decent, sauna and steam room were always the wrong temperature, never hot enough, despite informing reception about the usage well in advance.
All in all is a great building, with perfect position and potential just a shame the service is not looked after.

Room Tip: the hotel is not bad at hotel, just hope they work on the service. Location is terrific and building...

I have stayed at this hotel a couple of times and love its location, it's old world charm and have always had great customer service. The rooms are varied - we have paid the same price and had 2 very different room sizes, however both with a sea view. This is what you get in an older property. If you want it all brand spanking new try the Travelodge or something similar. I travelled with my husband who surf's and there was no problem with taking the board to the room and parking is handy. I have seen the staff accommodating families and in general I would say it would be suitable for most guests.
Note - I do try to book when there is an offer on the rooms, as I do think they are a little pricey normally.

Room Tip: Ask for a larger sea view room - the supplement in worth it for the views.

I stayed here 9-14 August with my girlfriend paying £563 for 5 nights with full breakfast, I feel £350-£400 would have been a fairer price. The room was big enough but the tv was like something from the early 90s and I was told that the hotel was in the process of updating them. The bathroom also needed updating and the bath had a shower curtain around it which kept on attaching itself to your body mainly through lack of room in the bathroom. Shower screens would be better. The hot tap in the sink was very hard to turn off and there wasn't sufficient room to put all the cosmetics. The room had a good sea view but the balcony had a lot of seagull mess on it and an old towel that someone had left before. I accept that seagulls are a problem but it didn't look as if this had been cleaned for a while. I enjoyed the breakfast but some things (for example) croissants and orange juice ran out very quickly and there could be a wait for then to be replenished. If the tv and bathroom were more modern it probably would've been worth the cost of £563 but for what I actually received it was overpriced and therefore can only be described as average.

Room Tip: Dont pick room 220 unless they change bathroom suite,tv and clean the balcony more often

If you are looking for a family holiday with a dog then this is the place to stay.with 4 of us in a room with the dog was fine and the room and bathroom en-suite were clean and tidy. The hotel is in the heart of the town with great eating places within easy walking distance (must try Fresh over the road).Breakfast was very good with fresh Kippers ,the local beaches are dog friendly and many eating places and shops will allow your dog in as well. All hotel staff are clean and friendly and very helpful. Great pool/ spa for non sunny days
with a little bit of modification would be a 4 star but great place to anyway
