“Parking a issue and rooms decor were dated.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 24, 2013 via mobile

We stayed for only one night whilst moving house.
We had two rooms booked. One family room which the decor was quite dated and a single room which was the same and very small, also a lot of noise from Bertie's until early hours.
Car parking was a big issue whist we stayed there which is made worse by having to pay.
Breakfast was okay, not what I was expecting in a hotel like this, expected more choice, like in other hotels I have stayed in.

Stayed August 2012, traveled with family

We stayed for 2 nights, took the train instead of the car and walked easily with our bags. Newquay is a bit sad in the winter but the beaches are great, we walked along the coast on one day and got the bus back.
Hotel has a lovely old fashioned grandeur about it and the beach is just behind. Breakfast was served nicely with lots of choice. We loved the basement pool and sauna which we used twice a day- a delightful relaxing bonus. Room was comfortable and clean and very warm. We had a 2 night deal so trip was very reasonable. I would recommend it for a winter break.
The Maharaja Indian restaurant was very good (along the road0.

Room Tip: You pay extra for sea view. We didn't so overlooked car park on second floor. Not a problem as...

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Victoria,in Newquay, on the 8th 9th March 2013. Just a quick break. I had read the reviews, and booked mainly because of the position, ie in town, but overlooking the bay. I have to be honest, I was expecting a tired and slightly run down hotel.
I was totally wrong.
The hotel is old, and the outside shows it. Once inside, everything feels original. Loads of original wood and other period features, and plenty of space. Tired it certainly is not! Everything is very well cared for and the place is very clean. The feeling it gives is one of being comfortable and friendly. We had a meal in the lovely dining room one night; good choices on the menu and the food was plentiful and very good.
Our bedroom had a sea view, and was huge and comfortable. It had a full en-suite which looked as though it was brand new.
All the facilities we used were well up to a good standard, and every member of staff we came into contact with was friendly, helpful and professional.
Not sure if all the bedrooms are of the same standard, we only saw one!
Access to the beach is an easy 200 mtr walk out of the hotel and appx 250 mtr down a fairly steep road; not so easy getting back though.

Just returned from 2 nights at the Victoria hotel, could not fault the staff, all very attentive. Lets get down to the nitty gritty then, the hotel needs updating. The rooms are basic , with heavily patterned carpets, the bed springs creaked with every move, and were not comfortable by the standards of today. the bathroom fittings were old fashioned , old hot and cold taps no mixers, old fashioned sink. The breakfast was again quite poor, concentrated orange juice, a handful of pastries, one plate of cold ham etc no bread rolls as it described on the menu, good quality bacon, but poor quality cheap sausages. Not to our taste at all. I asked for poached eggs and bacon and this was no trouble at all. The communal areas of the hotel are not looking good, the bar was closed all day, we found a table tennis table in the middle of the dancefloor, just left there. and if you want to sit and enjoy the view then you have to look over the grotty back area of the hotel which looks to include an old unused swimming pool which was filthy. Indeed the view from our room showed just how poor the outside area was, and has not been cleaned for many years. Yes there is some victorian charm , with a superb staircase etc but for me this hotel has to come up to standard before i would stay here again. I have stayed the the Atlantic hotel ( not far away) and there simply is no competition. For us we would rather pay a little more and stay at the Atlantic which we will do in future .

We are very sorry the hotel didn't meet your expectations. We have 71 bedrooms in the hotel and they can vary from room to room. We have suites, superiors and standard rooms and updating all the time. Without knowing what room you were in we can not comment on your particular room.

Regarding the breakfast, the rolls were to order and are on the menu. The sausages we have now changed and the response is very positive. The foods on the table we always refill which helps to keep them fresh and are always available.

The main bar is not open during the day but if drinks are required they will be brought to you by the porter. Also our adjourning pub is open all day and there is an entrance to the pub from the hotel.

If you wish to stay in a town centre hotel I am sure you will agree we are very well located and the best in the area for location and access. The old swimming pool you mentioned about is not ours and until the council do something about this we are left with the eyesore but it is only a small blot on a very beautiful sea view.

We are very pleased to hear you could not fault our staff and that you felt they were very attentive. We do invite you to contact the hotel manager personally to discuss all of these details as well.

Thank you for your input.

Last weekend we stayed at the Victoria for 2 nights.
The room was pleasant enough but very clean indeed and nice comfy bed and good quality fresh linen.
View was excellant being a sea view room.
Shower was a bit pathetic and power shower required really but nice array of little bathroom extra complimentary bits n pieces.
Breakfast was well organised, good selection and excellant quality.
We had an evening meal the first night and it was delicious and well exceeded our expectations.
All staff super friendly and helpful.
Only comment would be that there are areas of the hotel that decoration looks a little tired .
Thought having to pay £5 to park at the hotel uncalled for and £12.50 a night for a dog little over priced as we would not stay at a hotel not allowing dogs so it brings in extra trade.
The only lift broke down on Saturday and not repaired whilst we were there,Think there should be emergency cover over weekend as with 4 floors although we coped saw a lot of older guests struggling
All said a great stay in central setting

Room Tip: "sea view room a must"

Had a lovely two night stay here, in sea view rooms. Unfortunately the first night we were kept awake by the waste pipe in corner of room but asked staff if we could move rooms & they were more than helpful. We were moved to a new room on different floor, which again was really nice. Again, location, hotel & staff were all great :0) def stop again!!

we spent two nights at this hotel in the middle of the town. the rtoom had a wonderful view of the beach and the room itself was large and very warm.
they had a lift to all floors and beautiful public rooms including the restuarant which had fine views.
the service was second to none and the staff where always happy to assist,
