“You pay for the location”
Reviewed January 23, 2012

The staff were friendly, the hotel was clean and the communal areas were very nice. The rooms however are tired. The bed was desperately uncomfortable, the en suite was poorly fitted and the extractor fan extracted back into the bedroom!! Breakfast was good but not over-generous and we decided not to eat any other meals there. The location is great, right in town and the view from the seaview room was fantastic. I wouldn't return unless it was a special offer though, as full price is far too much for the standard of room.

Room Tip: Get a sea view room and take your own mattress!

Just got back from staying at the hotel victoria for a post festive season break. The hotel is nice if a little dated but this adds to the character. Great location right in the town centre and amazing views of the sea.
We both had massages which were very relaxing and then a lovely three course meal in the hotel's la rochelle restaurant, the lamb shank was amazing!
Swimming pool, jacuzzi and steam room were fab and we had them to ourselves!
Overall this is a great hotel, good value for money, staff are brilliant and the restaurant serves lovely food for a good price, my only negative was the room was very hot and we found it hard to sleep because of this.

Booked a suite for a very special occassion and was NOT let down - a stunning lounge, great size, furnished wonderfully, with a balcony big enough for a football match! The bedroom was beautifully furnished, a four poster bed and again a good size. Luxurious bathroom with double ended bath, marble tiles - FAULTLESS!!!

Oh did I mention a view to die for and the private access lift to your room - BOOK A SUITE!!!

Only moan - you pay £150 for one night for two to include breakfast and you STILL have to pay £3.50 for a tray charge to have your breakfast room service!!!

Room Tip: Book a suite!

recently returned from a 2nt 'special'deal of £99 and paid extra £40 for the stay to have seaview twin. rm.This is a beautiful hotel but attention to detail and decoration/repair is lacking in all areas.Hotel is 3 star and i expected to see the services to a higher standard. Breakfast is more to a standard of a roadside cafe and poorly cooked with a surly waitress who prefered to bark then speak. Spa facitities need upgrading but very clean in the pool area. Our room was of good size but chilly in the evening, but a view to die for of the sea! Shower is very old and needs replacing asap. Having very young staff who are very pleasent and polite to all guests is a huge bonus to the hotel and hopefully management tell them how proud.they are .

We recently stayed at the Victoria for a 50th Birthday celebration/Christmas weekend. The hotel immediately put us in a relaxed frame of mind with a no fuss very friendly reception staff to check you in.
The place was very clean and the décor, furnishings and tasteful Christmas decorations gave you a feeling that you are entering the Ritz or Waldorf in central London.
The Staff were tremendously friendly and helpful with every little request ensuring your every need was catered for.
The rooms were in keeping with the rest of the hotel and maintained to a high standard by the house keeping staff.
The only issue I had was that it was very warm and needed to have the window open all the time.
The food was of a high standard served by very polite and attentive young staff who were overseen by Jim in a manner which was discreet while ensuring all was smooth and guests needs were catered for in what was a very busy festive dinner.
A special mention must be given to the hard working girls in the Spa. We were a party of 14 guests, all of who had a spa session, being either a massage or treatment, we were catered for very professionally. I received the best massage I’ve ever had.
The pool and Jacuzzi were a welcome break from the cold wet weather outside. While sitting in the Jacuzzi the view to be had was that of the Atlantic Ocean crashing against the shore.
In all, a very pleasant stay and would highly recommend it to others. Thanks to all the staff for helping me celebrate my 50th in style.

Just returned from a week at the Victoria. You cannot go wrong here. Staff could not do more for you, all were bright and friendly throughout our stay. Breakfast was hot and plentiful. Room was big and bright yet cosy in the typical English weather. Fantastic location - numerous good pubs, bars and restaurants only few minutes walk. Didn't hear the night club at all. Had a massage in the Spa and it was divine! We will definitely be going back.
Take a trip into Bodmin and go to the jail - fascinating place, if not a bit spooky!!

Stayed here for my daughters wedding 26th August (taken me a while to get round to leaving review) The staff couldn't do enough to help us, from the porter, to the bar staff to the fantastic wedding co-ordinator, my daughter had booked a family room for her, myself and my grandaughter, for the night before the wedding, and the hotel upgraded us to a 2 bedroon suite at no extra cost, they made setting up the reception room a very stress free experience, they food was very good and service good. the only niggle was the D.J at the evening reception rubbish!!!, but he was not an employee of the hotel anyway, breakfast great!! only bad experience was our meal at Senor Dicks, the evening before the wedding, service abit erratic, and some of the guest ended up with tumy upsets, but overall a great weekend.
