We had a three night stay at the Headland Hotel for the new year, and we were not disappointed. We found the staff most friendly and helpful, our Fistral Suite was just lovely! Spotlessly clean, cosy and even had a real Christmas tree decorated with lights. Food was very good - the amount of choice you got at breakfast was outstanding. I have stayed in some very good hotels previously but have never had such a vast array of delights offered for breakfast. We also ate in the terrace restaurant and the food and service was good also. We stayed in the bar afterwards and the barman (wish I had taken his name!) was very friendly and made us feel totally at home. While the hotel is quite large it has a cosy feel to it. The ambience was superb! I have only one negative comment to make and it is a very small one. When booking in at reception we were given no guided tour or information as to where anything was?!? However, there is a full guide in your room detailing everything to know and need! I have no doubt that I will be returning to this wonderful hotel again. We'll be back!!!

It gives me great pleasure to read your thoughts and comments. We all appreciate you taking the time to review our wonderful Hotel. Christmas is such a magical time and we do like to add little touches such as your own Christmas tree to make you feel at home with us! The breakfast does indeed have a vast selection and I am delighted to hear you found each option so appealing.
Regarding your comments of your check in and tour of the Hotel, this is not something we offer upon check in however, you mentioned there is all the relevant information in the room and we do have a day porter who would gladly give you a tour of the hotel and grounds on request. We look forward to welcoming you again in th near future.

We stayed for three nights in November (special 3 nights for price 2) and absolutely fell in love with the place. Its everything you could wish for in a relaxing break, its spacious, cosy and welcoming.
From the impressive driveway to the big roaring log fire in the lobby, as soon as you get here it feels a million miles from humdrum life. We were in a fistral view room which was double aspect with stunning sunset views over fistral bay. Breakfast was lovely, every option available from fresh fruit and cereals to the full english or made to order items like eggs benedict or pancakes - all included. We ate in the Terrace a couple of times for dinner and afternoon tea; each time the food was gorgeous and the setting is beautiful. The piano music over breakfast is a nice touch. We made very good use of the spa/pool area everyday, the pool water is a bit chilly but the jacuzzi more than makes up for it! We spent a few hours just relaxing reading a book with a cuppa in the large lounge area with comfy sofas and candles. The whole hotel and setting is very romantic.
The main area of Newquay bay is just a 5-10 minute walk down the hill where there is a good selection of places to eat including a great seafood restaurant where you can pick your own lobster or crab. Its absolutely beautiful to walk along the coast and up the headland and knowing there's a sumptuous room waiting for you when you get back makes it perfect. The bathroom is something else with underfloor heating and a massive double ended bath more than big enough for two!
I couldn't recommend it enough and cannot wait to go back here - you wont be disappointed.

Room Tip: If you can afford the bit extra a Fistral Room is definitely worth it!

Thank you very much for your kind comments. I am delighted to hear that you enjoyed every aspect of your visit. We are so fortunate to have such beautiful views and I am very pleased to hear you got to enjoy a sunset.
From the entrance hall to the rooms on the top floor we like to indulge our guests and the under floor heating is perfect to warm your toes after a bracing walk along the beach. It will certainly be our pleasure to welcome you again to the hotel in the near future.
Best wishes from everyone at the Headland.

Jokingly call this our second home - we love staying here. It is so relaxing but luxurious. Last visit was over Christmas- Perfect.
Very child and dog friendly. Right on the sea with beautiful beach. Excellent for my husbands surfing addiction!! Can't wait to book our next stay.

Room Tip: recommend fistral rooms as updated bathrooms - great shower but all rooms are good

How lovely to hear you think of us as your “second home”. It is an honour to hear such a positive review. I believe that apart from the summer months, Christmas is the most exciting time of year to stay and I am pleased you stayed over this period to share the experience with us all. Surfing is indeed an addition! Especially for the brave who venture out in the winter! It is lovely for us to see our guests walk from the hotel straight to the water to enjoy a few hours of the surf, and our terrace is a wonderful place to sit and watch them ride the waves! Thank you for taking time to review our hotel and we will look forward to welcoming you again soon.

We have stayed several times now at the hotel and in the Headland Cottages, there is a reason we keep coming back for 'storm watchers' 'short breaks' 'recharging' - it never fails to delight
'We' have expanded over the years from two of us plus a dog enjoying excellent coastal walks, roaring log fires, delicious food and wine and indulging in fantastic views from our excellent hotel rooms to.... well.....Us and friends, a geriatric dog, a 7 year old and a 1 year old and staying in the self catering cottages and STILL it has somehow managed to be a relaxing experience, no mean feat with our group!
The cottages are excellent for our family needs, so well equipped, stunningly located, a real indulgent home from home. Our daughter was beside herself with excitement and our son had the best time charging round exploring. As ever the service in the hotel was outstanding, the food was gorgeous and being able to relax with the kids (yes they did make it possible) was just brilliant. Love the new spa pool facility and cannot wait to see the next phases.
Highly recommend this place to all - couples on retreat and families in the cottages - just perfect!

Room Tip: If you can - go for the sea views in the hotel, we will never forget indulging in a bottle of red, listening to the waves crashing and watching the storms rolling in All the cottages are great, so well equipped, check out the map and work out what is best for you and your families needs, we can't wait to stay in the tower one when our youngest is better with stairs

How lovely to read your thoughts on the Hotel and Cottages. It is always so nice to hear from our guests and how we have made your stay so enjoyable. I have had great pleasure in reading about your personal experience with the Hotel and the Cottages. It was especially rewarding to hear that even with a dog and two little ones in tow we were still able to make you feel relaxed!
Upon your return, we will have our lovely new spa and gym which will provide yet more enjoyment and relaxation, and it will be our pleasure to welcome you all back to the Hotel in the near future. Best wishes to you and your family from everyone at The Headland

As you come up the driveway the Headland is both imposing and welcoming, with a great position looking across the sea and Fistral Bay. The high ceilings and wide open spaces inside give the hotel a special atmosphere.

We stayed for 3 nights in a suite with a dual aspect window and lots of space. We had dinner in the restaurant on 2 of the 3 nights and thought the food to be excellent, with friendly service. One one of the nights the front desk gave us a very good recommendation for a local seafood restaurant. The location for surfing on Fistray Bay is of course perfect.

There were a few issues which we think could be improved. We found the bed to be quite hard and uncomfortable. We took lunch in the Terrace restaurant on the day we arrived and the service was very slow, and a bit odd as well. We gave up waiting for coffees but, of course, they were on the bill. As no-one came back to take the bill we ended up writing on it to ask for the deduction. The charges did not show up on our final room account so that was dealt with, but a proactive interested team would not simply have left it at that but would have spoken with us later after seeing the note on the bill. Finally, after dinner we sat on the comfortable chairs in the lounge area outside the dining room but apparently no drinks are served there. Reception sent me off to the Terrace Bar to get a drink.

In summary we do think this is a lovely hotel, with some very nice staff but lets itself down a little (hence 4 stars rather than 5).

Thank you very much for your comments and taking time to review the Hotel. We are extremely proud of the Hotel and it surrounding areas and we realise how fortunate we are to boast such wonderful views for our guests to enjoy. The Hotel still remains grand in its appearance both inside and out. I am very pleased to hear you feel the same way.
I was disappointed however, to hear about your experience in the Terrace and the Lounge. These matters have been looked into and all members of staff have been reminded to be attentive and proactive to all guests at all times including the busy periods.
Again I would like to thank you for posting your comments and we hope that you return to the headland whereby you will receive the 5* standard our guests expect.
